Background of CEHRO

Consortium of Ethiopian Human Rights Organizations (CEHRO) is a Consortium of 30 CSOs working on Human Rights, Democracy, and Peace-Building, and registered under the Civil Society Organization Proclamation No. 1113/2011 with Registration No. 3932. CEHRO is working to build the capacity of CEHRO members and key stakeholders, policy level advocacy and broadening civic space in Ethiopia. More information about CEHRO is available at www.cehro.org

Background of Position: 

We are looking for a highly capable project accountant to provide our project team with accounting support. As a Project Accountant, you will be required to report to the Finance Officer and manage all project bills and invoices. Your duties will also include reviewing budgets and preparing financial reports.

To be successful as a project accountant, you should possess extensive experience in accounting and the ability to provide project coordinator with accurate financial information. The project accountant ensures consistent billing and prepares reliable financial reports.

Project Accountant Responsibilities:

  1. Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor or other project managers as required.
  2. Reviewing budgets, including staffing, work plans, and fee structures.
  3. Providing project coordinator and clients with timely financial reports and budgets, as well as project forecasts.
  4. Preparing pre-billing reports for project managers to review.
  5. Preparing actual costs, working capital, and tax reports.
  6. Monitoring receivable income and supporting project coordinators with collections.
  7. Issuing invoices and purchase orders, as well as paying consultant, subcontractor, vendor, and supplier bills.
  8. Ensuring a steady cash flow by generating, auditing, and sending invoices in a timely manner.
  9. Updating contracts according to client requirements and reporting associated budget amendments.

Required Skills and Competencies

  •  Strong accounting software proficiency like QuickBooks and Peachtree which is essential for managing project finances.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting standards like IPSAS which is necessary for accurate financial reporting.
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills (Expertise in Microsoft Excel) which is crucial for financial modeling, data analysis, and budgeting.
  • Proficient in data entry and financial calculations: Accuracy and efficiency in data entry and financial calculations are vital for maintaining project financial records.
  • The ability to manage incoming invoices and outgoing payments for the project.
  • Reconciling bank statements to ensure accurate project financial records.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy of financial data in project accounting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate financial information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences are essential.

Supervises: Finance Officer
Duty Station: Addis Ababa with field travel
Salary: Scale with Negotiation

About You

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, or a similar profession.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a project accountant, or similar position.
  • Will give a priority advantage who have at least one year of NGO work experience
  • Have good experience working on accounting software, such as QuickBooks, Peachtree, etc.
