Job Description
TIMRAN is a civil society organization established to enhance women’s participation in politics and public decision-making processes. TIMRAN’s vision is to see Ethiopia as a country where women take their legitimate space in public decision-making and the nation’s political affairs. Our mission is to work towards the enhancement of Ethiopian women’s active engagement in political and public leadership to ensure their constitutional right to equal participation in the nation’s political, social, and economic undertakings. TIMRAN is operating in all regions of Ethiopia with the office in Addis Ababa.
Position Summary
The Women’s Leadership in Emergency (WLiE) initiative, established by CARE Ethiopia, aims to address the underrepresentation of women in decision-making processes during crises. The initiative focuses on empowering women to take leadership roles in rebuilding their communities and shaping solutions in regions affected by conflict, such as the Afar region. In particular, the project targets communities in Abala and Erebti, where women face unique challenges in their participation in recovery, peacebuilding, and decision-making processes.
To ensure the implementation of community-led initiatives and enhance the internal capacity of women’s groups, TIMRAN in collaboration with CARE Ethiopia is looking for a Focal Person to oversee and coordinate the WLiE activities in these regions. The Focal Person will play a role in empowering women leaders, building their skills, and ensuring that their voices and contributions are integrated into decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the implementation of community-led initiatives in Abala and Erebti, ensuring they are aligned with the broader goals of the WLiE initiative.
- Facilitate communication between the WLiE groups, local government, and TIMRAN management to ensure smooth coordination of activities.
- Ensure timely implementation of capacity-building workshops, training sessions, and supportive visits to the WLiE groups.
- Provide technical support to the women’s groups in Abala and Erebti, assist them enhance their leadership, advocacy, and decision-making skills.
- Regularly monitor and assess the progress of WLiE activities in the regions, ensuring that objectives are being met.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on the status of activities, challenges faced, and lessons learned to the project manager and stakeholders.

About You
- A bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Peacebuilding, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an advantage.
- At least 3 years of experience working in women’s empowerment, community development, or peacebuilding, with a focus on emergency or conflict-affected regions.
- Proven experience in organizing and facilitating community-level initiatives, particularly for women.
- Familiarity with the challenges faced by women in conflict and post-conflict settings, especially in the Afar region, is an asset.
- Experience in partner engagement, including with local communities, government officials, and international and local non-government organizations.
- Knowledge of gender-sensitive programming and approaches to women’s participation in peacebuilding.
- Fluency in English, Amharic and at least one of the local languages is required.
