Job Description

Brief Background

Christian Blind Mission (CBM) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit International Christian Development Organization committed to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the poorest countries of the world. Based on its Christian values and over 100 years of professional expertise, CBM addresses poverty as a cause and a consequence of disability and works in partnership to create a society for all. CBM’s vision is: “an inclusive world in which all persons with disabilities enjoy their human rights and achieve their full potential”.
As part of the capacity-building plan for 2025, CBM Ethiopia has planned to organize a 4-day training on Grant Management for CBM Ethiopia Country Office partners and the CO team.

The training is expected to cover the entire grant life cycle, from pre-award considerations to post-award compliance and closeout. The training should be structured to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, incorporate interactive elements, real-world examples, and opportunities for participants to apply what they learn. At the end of the training, participants are expected to be professionals who can effectively manage project grants, ensuring compliance, maximizing impact, and fostering long-term sustainability.

Objectives of the training:

  • To increase the understanding of the Grant Management concepts (covering the entire grant life cycle, from pre-award considerations to post-award compliance and closeout) and how it apply and work in the development and implementation of projects and programs (through a disability-inclusive approach);
  • To promote the ownership of the Grant Management among CBM CO partners & staff, and ensure peer learning is strong among CBM Ethiopia CO partners and CO staff.

The training is expected to cover the following main areas of topics:

  • Understanding the Grant Landscape
  • Project Implementation, Monitoring, and Reporting
  • Financial Stewardship and Compliance
  • Grant Closeout, Audits, Sustainability, and Best Practices for Continuous Improvement

Scope of work

The Consultant will be expected to:

  • Conduct necessary pre-training preparations: schedule, case studies, handouts, etc., required for the participatory and practical workshop.
  • Facilitate a four-day training on Grant Management for CBM Ethiopia partners and CBM Country Office staff. The training should be structured to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, incorporate interactive elements, real-world examples, and opportunities for participants to apply what they learn.
  • Assist participants to exercise how to develop a realistic action plan in order to implement the lessons learned after the training.
  • Provide resource materials to be used by the participants beyond the training.
  • Report – prepare a training report highlighting the key outcomes at each stage/day of the training, including suggestions for appropriate future options and recommendations.

Venue and date

The Grant Management training will be organized by CBM Ethiopia in collaboration with the selected Consultant/firm. The training will take place in Addis Ababa. The exact venue and date will be confirmed in due course, through the training should take place in the last week of September 2025.

Deliverables/outputs

  • Inception report – incorporating proposed training methodologies, training programme/schedule
  • Resource materials, including a reference, manual/framework, and checklist
  • Report of the training with outcomes and recommendations
  • Training manual for CBM future reference

About You

Desired qualifications and competencies

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in public administration, organizational development, business administration, or related fields;
  • Disability-related programme specialty will be considered an asset;
  • Considerable experience in conducting grant management-related trainings, knowledge, and experience on disability inclusion, and have extensive experience and reputation in conducting similar trainings and workshops;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong facilitation and analytical skills, and the ability to prepare well‐written reports in a timely manner, and available for the period indicated.
