Tax Compliance Officer

Location: Addis Ababa

Job Description

Job Purpose:

To ensure that the organization complies with all applicable Ethiopian tax laws and regulations by overseeing accurate and timely filing of tax returns, managing tax documentation, liaising with tax authorities, and advising on tax planning strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and file accurate tax returns (VAT, income tax, withholding tax, excise tax, etc.) in line with ERCA deadlines.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Ethiopian tax legislation, including changes introduced by the Ministry of Revenues and ERCA.
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with tax obligations and identify potential risks.
  • Liaise with external auditors and tax authorities during tax audits and assessments.
  • Analyze financial transactions and reports to ensure correct tax treatment and reporting.
  • Provide guidance to finance and other departments on tax-related matters.
  • Ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping for all tax filings and correspondence with ERCA.
  • Support tax planning and assist in identifying tax optimization opportunities in line with the law.
  • Handle correspondence and resolve queries or disputes raised by the tax authorities.
  • Train and build awareness among staff on tax compliance procedures.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in tax compliance or accounting, preferably within Ethiopia.
  • Knowledge of Ethiopian tax laws and ERCA compliance procedures.
  • Proficiency in tax reporting systems and financial software (e.g., Peachtree, ERP systems).
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Experience in dealing with ERCA is highly desirable.
  • ACCA or other relevant certifications is a plus.
