ABOUT THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Storytelling & Editorial Associate supports the development of clear, compelling written content that advances Inkomoko’s campaigns, thought leadership, and external visibility.
Reporting to the Campaigns & Thought Leadership Manager, this role focuses on writing, editing, coordination, and content sourcing across teams and countries.
This position plays a key role in ensuring consistency, quality, and narrative strength across written communications.
Key Responsibilities are:
Writing, Editing & Editorial Support
- Draft and edit content for press releases, press packs, newsletters, website pages, and campaign materials.
- Apply the Message House and proof standard to all drafts, ensuring clear pillar alignment, dignified tone, and local proof points.
- Copy-edit website content and support updates in coordination with digital and brand teams.
- Draft and coordinate editorial inputs for the annual report, newsletters, and major publications, gathering inputs from across teams and managing timelines and reviews.
Editorial, Media & Thought Leadership
- Contribute to storytelling and content capture efforts in coordination with the team, including content for publications, projects and posts including through tracking organizational activities and field visits.
- Support thought leadership content development, including contributing to writing and editorial shaping.
- Package partner-ready visibility packs for priority moments, tailoring copy and visuals to each story/angle, with correct crediting/consent notes and simple amplification guidance.
- Help develop interview questions and editorial framing for the podcast, interviews and other media projects..
Story Collection & Community Engagement
- Source story leads through internal channels (Slack) and structured check-ins with focal points and teams
- Collect impact stories from across teams and countries by actively monitoring Slack and internal channels.
- Support storytelling champions by providing story prompts, interview guides, consent guidance, and packaging templates.
- Support and maintain an editorial calendar and tracker for the Comms team, plus trackers for the newsletter and annual report in coordination with the Development, Advocacy and other departments.
- Maintain an editorial framework to ensure consistent voice and tone across written outputs.
- Contribute to the implementation of Inkomoko’s Communications Strategy by delivering drafts and story packages that meet the message house, quality checklist, and deadlines.
Requirements
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- 5 years of experience supporting content creation, writing, and editing, ideally in communications, campaigns, journalism, or a mission-driven organization.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences and platforms.
- Experience supporting multi-channel content, including newsletters, websites, campaign materials, and media-related content.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across teams, including campaigns, digital media, brand, development, and country teams.
- Interest in storytelling, campaigns, and thought leadership, with a curiosity about social impact, entrepreneurship, and economic inclusion.
- Comfort sourcing stories and information by monitoring internal channels (e.g., Slack) and engaging with colleagues across teams.
- Experience working in East Africa or similar regional contexts is an advantage.
