JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Gender Youth and Social Inclusion (GYSI) Advisor will serve as a lead GYSI technical person within EngenderHealth Ethiopia program and provide technical leadership and guidance to the USAID/E LHA and ensure women, youth, and other underserved populations are prioritized into EngenderHealth Country program and USAID Ethiopia LHA operations. They work with EngenderHealth Country leadership and Human Resource, the USAID/E LHA COP and other key personal’s, technical team and with global office to develop and implement evidence based GYSI policies, strategies, and interventions. The Sr Advisor will be responsible for development/adaptation and implementation of GYSI analysis, work plan, training materials and tools for use for the USAID/LHA and partners. They will also represent EngenderHealth and USAID/E LHA at relevant platforms related to gender, youth, and social inclusion. They will also identify, document, disseminate, adapt, and replicate best practices related to gender, adolescent, and youth interventions of the LHA. They will ensure that USAID E/LHA activities are evidence based and strive towards realizing gender and youth transformative and socially inclusive change.

They will be responsible for liaison and representing EngenderHealth and USAID/E LHA and establishing strong partnership and collaboration with partners including government, implementing partners and other relevant stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic and technical leadership in the contextualization of EngenderHealth’ s Global Gender, Youth and Social Inclusion strategy, framework, and tools for the USAID/E LHA
  • Provide technical leadership and work closely with local HR, program, and operation staffs to develop GYSI strategy for USAID/E LHA and GYSI orientation package and ensure GYSI policies and initiatives are integrated into USAID/E LHA consortium partners operations and USAID/E LHA supported interventions through training, mentorship, and supervision
  • Lead the design/development of innovative strategies and approaches/tools that help USAID/LHA, and its partners to integrate Gender, Youth and social inclusion in their day-to-day activities
  • Build capacity of EngenderHealth country program, USAID/E LHA consortium partners and collaborating partners capacity on GYSI at programing, workplace and overall operations. Provide technical assistance, competency-based trainings and mentorship to government and CSO partners, law reinforcement bodies and health care providers
  • Provide technical leadership and strengthen stakeholder response to Gender based violence (GBV) at national, regional, the district, health facility and community level through training and mentorship to ensure interventions to prevent, identify, refer, and manage GBV at different levels are streamlined
  • Provide technical oversight to USAID/E LHA team to self-assess the degree of gender, youth and social inclusion, adapting EngenderHealth’ s GYSI Marker, analyze results and provide regular inputs to enhance transformative approaches for gender and youth programming
  • Collaborate with senior CE/SBCC advisor and Advocacy advisor to implement strategies and tools to enhance gender equality, male engagement, and meaningful youth participation in USAID/LHA supported activities
  • Collaborate with Service Delivery team lead and advisors to implement strategies and tools to ensure RMNCAH-N service at health facility level are gender and youth sensitive and socially inclusive
  • Collaborate with senior Health System Strengthening advisor to implement strategies and tools to enhance gender equality in primary health care leadership
  • In collaboration with EngenderHealth MEL Director and the USAID/LHA team, participate actively in identifying, carrying out potential operational research, establish data and evidence on gender, youth, and social inclusion interventions
  • Represent USAID/LHA and provide technical assistance on GYSI at relevant government, non-government and private sector platforms at national and local level
  • Work closely with the Global GYSI team in developing, adapting and conceptualizing new GYSI strategies, projects and program portfolio for Ethiopia and the USAID/E LHA
  • Document best practices and lessons learned in implementing gender equality and youth development activities in the project and share for inclusion in the quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports
  •  Compile/produce and ensure timely submission of (monthly, quarterly, semiannual and annual and as needed) reports
  •  Represent the country program at appropriate high level technical working groups and partner’s meeting
  • Carry out other assignments as may be required and as directed by immediate supervisor or country leadership

Job Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree or above in gender studies or related social science preferably with background in public health or health-related fields
  • minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in development programs preferably under NGO setting
  • Demonstrated capacity and experience in designing and managing GYSI programs/projects/interventions, preferably at supervisor level
  • Experience with and understanding of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Women and Social Affairs, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Education with commendable understanding on of the health service delivery systems and the multisectoral response to GBV
  • Relevant work experience at USAID funded projects

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • In-depth knowledge of gender transformative approaches including male engeemnet meaningful youth participation, GBV and social inclusion
  • Commendable knowledge on women, adolescent and youth and other vulnerable population with energetic and enthusiastic approach to work with such dynamics group
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and demands, establish priorities, and work effectively in a deadline driven environment; accuracy and attention to detail in the performance of duties is of critical importanc
  • Outstanding ability to interact with young people, experts and collaborators across multiple disciplines, program areas, and cultures with exceptional ability to lead, mentor and support teams
  • Capacity to provide technical leadership and experience in supervising staff.
  • Fluency in written and oral English with ability to articulate and presents ideas, opinions, and information in a clear, concise, structured and convincing manner for the intended audience
  • Exceptional analytical skills, interpersonal, teamwork, and partnering skills.
  • Computer literate, with knowledge of Windows applications, including Excel spreadsheets
