CONTRACT LENGTH: Six months with possible extension

Reports to: Field Office Manager

Matrix Manager: Sr. Education Programme Specialist

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

Risk and Compliance: The role holder is required to carry out the duties in accordance with the SCI Fraud, Bribery, and Corruption policy and code of conduct. The key responsibilities include understanding and complying with the SCI policies and procedures, not committing any act of fraud, bribery, or corruption, understanding risks in their area/role, and implementing mitigation measures, report any suspected fraud, bribery, or corruption immediately, declare conflicts of interest in accordance with internal procedures and complete mandatory training related to ethics and anti-fraud measures

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Sr. Coordinator is accountable for budget management across the multiple awards implemented under the jurisdiction of the Field Office.  S/he is also accountable for partner management and coordination, which includes development through capacity building, monitoring, and supportive supervision.

The position Holder will be responsible to Co-chair the Education cluster and representing SCI in the Eduaction clusters happening at the sub-national or regional level. S/he will coordinate with other Programme Staff to gather or share important updates.

Performs other related tasks as required and as assigned by his/her immediate line manager, Area Director, or Head of Program Operations.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

Programme Planning and Implementation

  • Coordinate day-to-day implementation of education project activities.
  • Develop detailed implementation plans and activity schedules.
  • Ensure timely execution of project work plans and targets.
  • Monitor project performance against indicators and deliverables.

Technical Support

  • Provide technical guidance to education staff and partners.
  • Support teachers and facilitators through mentoring and coaching.
  • Ensure education interventions meet SCI quality standards.
  • Promote inclusive, gender-sensitive, and child-friendly education approaches.

Coordination and Representation

  • Liaise with government education authorities and partners.
  • Participate in education cluster and coordination meetings.
  • Represent Save the Children in education-related forums as delegated.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)

  • Support data collection and verification activities.
  • Review project performance data and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and donor reports.
  • Document lessons learned and best practices.

Budget Management

  • Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Assist in budget planning and forecasting.
  • Ensure efficient and accountable use of project resources.

Safeguarding and Child Protection

  • Mainstream safeguarding into all education activities.
  • Report safeguarding concerns according to SCI procedures.
  • Ensure all staff and volunteers adhere to SCI policies and Code of Conduct.

Capacity Building

  • Deliver training to teachers, education officers, and community volunteers.
  • Strengthen local partners and government capacity in education programming.

About You

  • BA/B.Sc. degree in an area of education or equivalent in development studies preferably an MSc/MA/MEng level in relevant areas of social development or equivalent

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum of 6 years of related work experience in managing humanitarian and/or recovery programs
  • Previous experience of managing a large multi-sector, multi-national team or professionals
    Previous experience of programme management across multiple locations
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mind sets
  • Experience of working successfully with senior managers in other parts of own organization or partner organizations to deliver major change
  • Experience of successfully implementing changes to processes to improve and monitor quality standards and impact achieved
  • Experience of managing and shaping programmes to deliver greater efficiency and effectiveness, and of strengthening implementation of financial control processes
  • Solid budgeting skills and knowledge of key donor regulations
  • Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner
  • Ability and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies
  • Fluency in Somali language required
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written, required
