Job Description

Background

Save the Environment Ethiopia is a local Non Governmental non-profit organization working on Environmental protection and rehabilitation, energy, livelihood and shelter programs over the past 10 years with the ambition of addressing environmental protection in the country wide.

Duties and Responsibilities;

The job holder is responsible to coordinate the implementation of the project at Melkadida Operation level in collaboration with partners, local stakeholder’s community renewable energy committees. Moreover, she or he will provide professional work involving supervision and coordination of manufactured and distributed energy Saving Stoves and capacity building support to direct beneficiaries to sustain the results of the project. The job holder specifically bears the following duties and responsibilities

  • Supervise and install solar energy unity systems/equipments to provide a useful and quality standard work
  • Review , inspect and test the performance of solar installation
  • Work with solar and other energy cooperatives to help ensure quality and adherence to the  standards
  • Commission and optimize all solar installations and other project implementations for peak performance.
  • Work with energy staffs and energy beneficiaries providing support to improve new system design and reliability.
  • Ensure safety codes are adhered to onsite.
  • Mobilization and organize the community for full participation in the project implementation in the organization of committees;
  • Oversee project execution to ensure that all systems are installed exactly according to plan and that there are no technical installation errors committed that would decrease system performance or lifespan or cause potential system failure.
  • Review all system design and engineering work and recommend any necessary changes to ensure maximum system performance and reliability as well as the highest possible return on investment.
  • Ensure the community especially youth and women are fully participate in the organization of committees;
  • Prepare regular reports to the donors and government concerned bodies ensuring that reporting requirements are met and submitted on time and in high quality
  • Enforce stewardship by ensuring efficient and effective utilization of project resources for the intended purpose in the project
  • Closely work and network with zonal and district level concerned stakeholders for planning, implementation, reporting and documentation
  • Development of a strategy including cost assumptions on the introduction of a system of standards for institutional cook stoves and testing mechanisms of installed stoves in the field;
  • Development of training manuals for manufacturers to ensure manufacturers meet requirements when production starts
  • Providing support and advice on the deployment of energy saving cooking stoves
  • Providing support and advice on the selection of the most efficient and energy saving cooking stoves
  • Documenting the lessons learnt in the implantation of the project and making recommendations for future interventions
  • Proposing solutions to emerging challenges in the project implementation
  • Supporting the development, production, distribution and utilization of energy saving practices
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Energy coordinator/Area manager

Reporting;-

  • Coordinate the production of all narrative reports from and provide feedback to improve product quality, accuracy, and style
  • Ensure high quality, timely and coherent reporting, both financial and narrative
  • Be responsible for submission of donor reports and information, communication of compliance questions or project challenges.
  • Ensure that the project team and Partners are aware of all relevant communication, changes in regulations, and meetings or conferences.

Number of positions required: 1 (one)

Location: Melkadida refugee operation

Duration: 9-months with possibility of extension

Job starting time: Immediately

Job Requirements

  • Bsc in electrical engineering stream of power and Electro-mechanical engineering (MUST)
  • Must  have over 4 years of experience in solar system installations, solar water pumping systems, solar straight lighting, briquetting machine maintenance and other renewable and energy efficient technologies
  • Excellent analytical skills and strong commitment to sharing expertise and experience in order to develop capacity of others, and work as a member/advisor of a team
  • Strong communication skills; able to communicate effectively with people and able to write concisely and make presentations in a simple non-technical manner
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and negotiation skills. Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy
