Job Description

CIFA is an international NGO with over 40 years of commitment in protecting the most vulnerable children and youth. Working in Ethiopia for over 20 years, CIFA supports the access to primary and secondary education, especially for girls; it fights against the worst forms of discrimination and supports women’s economic empowerment. With this approach, CIFA currently works in Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa City Administration, Amhara (South Wollo), Hareri and Oromia Region.

In the framework of the RESTART project, under the supervision of the Project Manager and the Protection and Migration Expert, CIFA is looking for      1 Social Worker for family reintegration of lone minors and street children and for 1 Social Worker for psycho-social support in South Wollo (Dessie City, Dessie Zuria, Kombolcha, Kalu)

 Position:

  • 1 Social Worker for family reintegration of lone minors/street children
  • 1 Social Worker for psycho-social support of returnees and potential migrants

 Duration Contract :

  •  12 months with 60 days probation period

Location :

  •  Dessie City, with periodic travels in South Wollo, CIFA Head Office in Addis Ababa for training and/or coordination meetings, if needed

Key Tasks:

  • Supporting the project coordinator and other experts in planning the activities to be implemented, in accordance with the timetable;
  •  Identification of lone children as migrants or left behind by conflict or IDPs through the collection of personal data;
  • Creation of a database;
  • Search for the family of origin (at least one member) or, if this is not feasible, search for a host family;
  • Family reintegration, through sessions with children/young people, with families;
  •  Awareness-raising of families on education issues, the needs of adolescence and parental support in growing them up
  • Follow-up and monitoring of children reintegrated into the family in cooperation with Women, Children and Social Affairs Bureaus (BoWCSA);
  •  Prepares a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual plan of activities;
  • Prepares and submits monthly and quarterly reports on activities carried out;
  • Collaboration with the psychologist and programme team for the psycho-social support of beneficiaries.

Project : The project “RESTART: Emergency initiative to support migrants, returnees and vulnerable communities in Addis Ababa and South Wollo” is an integrated intervention to mitigate the main roots and consequences of irregular migration, and to improve the living conditions of the categories at greater risks exposure.

The project aims at supporting the reintegration of returnees and preventing the illegal depart of unskilled young migrants, while strengthening the capacities of local services targeting unemployed and vulnerable people in Addis Ababa and South Wollo Zone.

Job Requirements

Qualification:
  • Bachelor Degree in Education or in Social Sciences;
Experience: 
  • At least 3 years’ experience in relevant fields is required;
  • Preferably experience with minors and, eventually, street children
  • Previous experience in developing projects with vulnerable persons and minors.
  • Previous experience working with INGOs or humanitarian organizations for 3 years;
Personal Skills:
  • Ability to relate to beneficiaries and children.
  • Strong interpersonal and empathic skills, ability to analyze, report, work independently and in a team
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Good management, administrative and communication skills;
  • Must be organized, able to be multi-task, flexible, and able to work as a team and individual;
  • Strong interpersonal and empathic skills
  • Establish good relations with beneficiaries and local government representatives
Languages:
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal;
  • Excellent communication skills in Amharic, both written and verbal
