General Information

New Millennium Women Empowerment Organization (NMWEO) is an indigenous, non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian organization established in 2007 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The organization was previously registered at the Ministry of Justice under registration number 3018 and later registered and licensed by the Federal Charities and Societies Agency as an Ethiopian resident’s charity by the Charities and Societal Proclamation No. 621/2009 by registration No. 0539. NMWEO has been re-registered according to the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No.113/2019 with registration No. 0539.

Position Overview

The Social Worker will be responsible for providing direct support to vulnerable populations, particularly women, girls, and at-risk individuals, in line with NMWEO’s humanitarian and development programs. The role involves case management, provision of psychosocial support, and referral services. The Social Worker will work closely with community members, service providers, and local authorities to ensure that individuals in need receive appropriate services and care.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct individual and group counseling sessions for beneficiaries, providing psychosocial support.
• Implement case management services, including intake assessments, planning, and follow-up with clients to ensure their needs are met.
• Provide referrals to relevant services, including health, legal, and protection services, ensuring clients have access to the support they require.
• Engage in community mobilization and awareness-raising efforts, particularly focused on gender equality, protection, and social inclusion.
• Collaborate with local stakeholders, including health and education providers, to ensure integrated support for clients.
• Maintain accurate and confidential case files, ensuring proper documentation of all interactions with clients.
• Ensure that clients are informed of their rights and available services, offering guidance as needed.
• Conduct home visits and community outreach activities to monitor the well-being of beneficiaries and provide ongoing support.
• Ensure compliance with NMWEO’s safeguarding, protection, and PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) policies when working with vulnerable individuals.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
• Experience: At least 2 years of experience in social work, case management, or providing support services in humanitarian or development contexts.

Skills:

• Strong understanding of social work principles and practice, especially in crisis and post-crisis settings.
• Ability to provide psychosocial support and manage sensitive cases with confidentiality and professionalism.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse individuals and communities.
• Knowledge of referral pathways for health, legal, and protection services.
• Report writing and documentation skills.
• Language: Fluency in English and Amharic required; knowledge of additional local languages is an advantage.
