Short Term Consultancy for Regenerative

Background

International Development Enterprises (iDE) is an international NGO dedicated to creating income and livelihood opportunities for poor rural households of Ethiopia through various projects implemented in different parts of the country.

iDE Ethiopia has been promoting climate smart agricultural practices over the last 5 years with Climate Adaptation and Rural Development (CARD) project as well as recently promoting commercial fodder production in the pastoralist livelihood systems through Resilience in Pastoral Areas (RIPA) project in South Omo zones of SNNP Regional State.

Scope

• Identify agricultural practices for carbon sequestration and soil regeneration in CARD and RIPA project areas
  • Identify, adapt and/or develop manuals (as needed for field staff to use in the promotion of these practices, working closely with the relevant project team.
  • Include inventory of local suppliers and locally available supplies (including seasonality thereof).
  • Include IPM practices (including plan A, B, C, etc. approaches if local supplies are unavailable and/or unaffordable).
  • Include step-wise recommendations of which practices farmers should adopt initially, and then as they progress (consider cost, effort, technical difficulty, production risk)

• Provide training and demonstration recommendations, working closely with the relevant project team. This can leverage lead farmers’ sites, local government training sites (where available and accessible), or other suitable methods/locations.

Budget

• The prospective candidate shall submit the technical proposal of how to do the assignment and anticipated budget for the above scope of work with CARD and RIPA project Intervention areas. Nevertheless, the budget should not exceed $7000 over three months.

Timeframe

• 3 months duration

Required Qualification & Experience:

• A well versed Agronomist who has demonstrable experience in climate smart agricultural practices, conservation agriculture and other sustainable agricultural practices with the focus on land, water and soil management.
