Job Summary 

A shelter community mobilizer will be involved in the supervision of skilled labour, mobilization of construction materials and other volunteers in the field and will oversee the construction activities that occur on the worksite. He or she will plan, oversee, and implement construction efforts at work sites and report to the Shelter coordinator. The position is required to closely work with carpenters, local authority’s, community leaders, community members and all other concerned stakeholders to ensure proper and timely implementation of project activities with regard to assurance of quality and stewardship. The shelter community mobilizer in assigned areas of supervision reports to Shelter coordinator.

 

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities

§   Supervise the mobilization of construction materials, construction activities of the transitional shelter /infrastructure projects interventions which includes the construction of homes, and latrine.

§  Monitor quality of construction activities throughout construction phases including the receiving materials, mobilization to village center, ensuring the measurement, the shape and availability of soil or stone during digging

§  Monitor and check to ensure the standard of bar schedule for concrete slab, ensure and monitor the site construction activities.

§  Supervise the structural work of construction such as roofing, supper structure, door fixing, drainage etc.

§  Supervise team leader/volunteer & skilled labour work including their presence on site (time keeping) proper use of materials, proper deployment of their crew

§  Supervise materials are being delivered on site, as per agreed quantity and quality and its proper utilization and prepare distribution list.

§  Assist the Shelter Officer in providing input such as taking measurement and assist in preparation of construction costing sheet (House, Toilet cost sheet etc.) and budgeting

§  Assist the shelter officer, Coordinator and Manager co in other preparation and facilitation work as needs

§  Report weekly progress and challenges to the Shelter coordinator

Education / Experience Needed

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (in civil engineering or construction technology and management,)
  • Minimum of 1 years in the construction industry,
  • Excellent organization and planning skills to prioritize and balance work.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer proficient, with experience in MS Excel, Project, and Word
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
