Job Description

• Compiling and analyzing policies, laws and manuals related to climate change and disaster risk reduction of persons with disabilities.
• Developing inclusive climate and disaster plans.
• conducting vulnerability assessments for PWDs, and integrating PWD needs into response and recovery efforts.
• Develop and deliver training materials for local staff, first responders, and community members on inclusive disaster preparedness and response.
• Provide guidance on how to make early warning systems and emergency shelters accessible to PWDs
• monitor and evaluate programs to ensure they are effectively and equitably serving the disability community.
• Design and implement climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction (DRR) programs that specifically address the needs of PWD
• Integrate disability inclusion into existing and new community and education sector programs related to climate resilience and disaster preparedness.
• Ensure disaster risk reduction (DRR) activities are inclusive by consulting with local disability organizations and PWDs themselves to understand their specific risks and needs
• Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses that specifically identify and prioritize the risks faced by PWD during climate events.
• Analyze climate data and trends to inform strategies for protecting PWDs from future shocks.
• Assess the capacity of local organizations and government bodies to provide inclusive disaster response and recovery services.
• Build and maintain strategic partnerships with disability-focused organizations, government agencies, and other humanitarian actors to promote a unified and inclusive approach to disaster management.
• Serve as a focal point for all disability-inclusive climate and disaster risk- related activities.
• Build partnerships with disability organizations.
• Establish monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track the effectiveness of inclusive DRR programs.
• Collect and report on data related to the impact of climate change and disasters on PWDs, ensuring that their experiences are documented and their needs are visible to stakeholders.
• Contribute to program reports, case studies, and success stories, highlighting the importance of disability inclusion in climate and disaster resilience

Job Requirements

Required educational and work experience

• Minimum of BA/BSc and Master degree in Disaster risk management, geography and environmental studies, Developmental studies specialized in environment and sustainable development, environmental science, and other related fields.
• At least 7 years of experience for BA/BSc and 5years in MA in the fields related to those mentioned educational backgrounds
• Informed in disability-related concepts
• Good skills in communications, English language, technologies etc.
• Experience working effectively with governments, civil society, multilateral, and the private sector
• Experience project management and planning program design
• Experience in reporting and monitoring using quantitative and qualitative analysis
• Experience in developing and conducting trainings, campaigns and community work
• Co-operates well with others; shares knowledge, experience and information; supports others in the pursuit of team goals
• Builds a useful network of contacts and relationships and utilizes it to achieve objectives
• Those with work experience on disability are encouraged,
