The Ethiopian Women Lawyers’ Association (EWLA) invites competent and qualified candidates to apply for the vacant post of Senior Programs officer of which the detail requirements are mentioned here below.

Brief Highlight of EWLA: Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association has been established at the federal level in 1995 by Women lawyers and re-registered as Local Organization in accordance with the Civil Society Organization. It has been working for more than 25 years to promote women’s social, economic, political and legal rights to help women exercise their constitutional and other rights.

The aim of the association is to promote equal participation of women in all sectors and to prevent sexual violence against women and create a safe environment for women through its three programs: Legal Research and Advocacy, Public Education and Capacity Building, and Free Legal Aid service.  

The association is head quartered in Addis Ababa and has opened its regional offices in seven regions  and one city administration namely Adama, Hawassa, Bahir Dar, Gambella, Asosa, Jigjiiga, Semera regions and city administration of Dire Dawa. In order to make the service accessible to all, the association is working to continue its service in the zones and woredas under its regional and city administration branches and has so far established 55 volunteer committee centers across the country. Besides, it has established a hotline service (7711) which operates in 3 local languages: Amharic, Afan Oromo and Tigrigna.

I.       Job Summary

Under the immediate supervision of the Program manager, the Senior Program officer will have the following duties and responsibilities:

The senior programs officer will provide oversight the programs and projects. She/he will collaboratively work with the other consortium Managers and relevant members of the department’s staffs according to the donor requirements. Senior programs officer work to assist project manager teams with the coordination of resources, equipment, meetings, and information. She/he organizes projects with the goal of getting them completed on time and within budget.

   III. Main Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop annual work plan for the projects according to donor and organization guidelines.
  • Support and ensures development of sound detailed implementation plan and budget forecast by the implementing partners, which includes monthly, quarterly and annually activity implementation plan.
  • Develop concept papers and proposals as per the donor requirement and due diligence
  • Conduct effectively and efficiently works with all projects staffs and partners to ensure timely submission of for narrative and financial reports inputs
  • Prepares narrative reports on the implantation of projects activities and its progress against expected results, annual, semiannual and final report, as per the requirements of the donor.
  • Prepares projects proposals and support projects development and formulation, design, planned and monitor sub projects.
  • Oversees monitoring and evaluation activities, working closely with partners to ensure strong system for projects data collection, entry and analysis, providing support where needed.
  • Regularly monitors and follow up on budget utilization and projects expenditure, and analysis of over and under spending
  • Facilitates communications and interaction among the partners, finance team, and donors where applicable.
  • Ensure timely submission of Financial and activity reports to stakeholders and donors as per their requirements
  • Maintaining and monitoring project plans, project schedules, work hours, budgets, and expenditures.
  • Organizing, attending, and participating in stakeholders’ meetings and preparing necessary presentation materials for meetings
  • Documenting and following up on important actions and decisions undertaking project tasks as required by the donors.
  • Ensuring projects adhere to frameworks and all documentation is maintained appropriately for each project.
  • Assess project risks and issues and provide solutions where applicable.
  • Ensure stakeholder views are managed towards the best solution.
  • Direct project correspondences by preparing and reviewing project proposals, memos, meeting minutes and emails.
  • Communicate with clients to identify and define project requirements, scope and objectives

Salary: As per the Association’s scale

Duration: One-year contract with possibility of Extension

Job Requirements

  • Applicants are expected to fulfill the following criteria
  • Professional with BA/MA Degree in Law, Project management or Social Studies
  • Minimum 4 years of experience for MA
  • Minimum 7 years of experience for BA
  • Possibly with experience working on project coordinator/officer in NGO
  • Must demonstrate strong interest, passion and commitment to work with women
  • Demonstrated experience to effectively provide technical assistance, conducting advocacy and gender-related trainings
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication, teamwork, partnering, and consensus-building skills
  • Passionate to serve women seeking legal aid service
