General Information

Good Neighbors International (GNI) is an international humanitarian and development non-governmental organization, operating in 46 countries with a focus on community development and humanitarian program. In Ethiopia, Good Neighbors was established in 1997 to improve lives of the needy segment of the society, especially children’s lives, through child protection, education, health, water and sanitation, and income generation activities. Every year, we are reaching thousands of needy children, and their families. GNE is present in Ethiopia’s Amhara, Oromia, Benishagul Gumez, Sidama, SNNPR, and Addis Ababa city administration. GNE is seeking a competent Senior Officer so as to effectively manage funds/grants secured from partners in line with the existing financial procedures of the organization and based on the financial management standards.

Responsible to: ODA (Fundraising and Management) Manager

Term of Employment: Contract of one year with the possibility of extension.

Duty Station(s): Addis Ababa (Head office)

Overview of the Position

The major responsibilities of the Senior Officer will be to draft a country-specific fundraising strategy, to develop and maintain partnerships with donors in Food, Livelihood, and other related sectors in the country, and to develop fundable proposals together with other partner organizations, the private sector, and government organizations of the country.

Duties and Responsibilities;

  • Conducting research on potential donors;
  • Assisting in the preparation of project proposals for partners and other funding agencies;
  • Maintain a file about each potential donor and keep it updated
  • Search calls for proposals on a regular basis and analyze if calls are appropriate for the country alliance to apply for.
  • Identify new stakeholders (NGOs, private sector, financial institutions, and governments) for strategic partnerships and joint programming.
  • Ensures all grants/projects reports are discussed with the project team and passed to donors and support offices within the required time schedules.
  • Co-ordinates and review project budget development (proposal, grant and matching funds) between the program personnel and the field teams.
  • Reviews and analyzes grant expenses while using the same as a monitoring tool to advise the stakeholders on expenditure trends.
  • Reviews donor financial reports and variance analysis before submission and provide feedback to the stakeholders.
  • Ensures that project income is effectively utilized with information on amounts of the project funds carried forward.
  • Occasionally visits project field sites to ensure financial controls and procedures are in place.
  • Ensures that various donor regulations are complied with in all grant transactions and processes; keep the commissioner informed on all major compliance issues/challenges while taking the necessary corrective steps.
  • Takes part in the program and project performance monitoring, evaluation and reporting in accordance to donor requirements.
  • Ensures that project implementation based on the project document and monitors the progress of the project.
  • Submits on time project grant financial reports and follows up on the project close-out procedures related to financial aspects, asset disposal and release of liability among others.
  • Prepares and maintain the Grant Tracking Sheet while ensuring that the same is regularly shared with program and implementing staff as appropriate.

 

Job Requirements

  • University degree (BA in social sciences, Development studies, other relevant qualification),
  • 3 years of work experience in fundraising and management from local and international donors,
  • Knowledge of the humanitarian and development sector is desired,
  • Knowledge of developing proposals for local and international donors,

Required Languages – Excellent in English and Amharic

Required skills:

  • Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated capacity to undertake assigned responsibilities and work under pressure;
  • Ability to work as a team;
  • Commitment to the “No- harm” policy;
  • Computer literate especially in MS word, MS excel and PowerPoint;
  • Well organized, attention to detail, and have some analytical skills;
  • NGO experience is an asset;
  • Analytic and strategic thinking;
