Job Description

Tearfund Ethiopia is seeking an experienced Senior Finance Officer to execute, implement, and verify the day-to-day financial, accounting, and reporting processes for the Tearfund Ethiopia Programme, with a core focus on meticulously monitoring project budgets, ensuring strict compliance with all donor and internal financial control policies, and serving as the primary lead for partner financial report verification, monitoring, and capacity building support.

The successful candidate will be proficient in the following critical areas:

  • Financial Execution & Reporting: Detailed management of project budgets, rigorous liquidity execution (bank and cash functions), and preparing accurate financial reports for review by the Finance Manager.
  • Compliance & Controls: Adherence to the internal control framework, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, and executing specific donor mandates.
  • Partner Financial Oversight and Support: Diligent technical oversight of partnerships and sub-grantee portfolios, including financial monitoring visits, financial report review and capacity assessments.
  • Audit Readiness and Documentation: Maintaining high standards for document control and providing extensive support to internal and external audit processes.

Do you have a Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent qualification in?

  • Accounting, Finance or Business Administration

Do you have previous experience?

  • Minimum 8 years hands-on financial management experience within an International NGO (INGO) at a senior level.
  • Significant experience operating within a direct implementation and partner plus environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
  • Managing and reporting on funds from major institutional donors.
  • Financial Management and Accounting.
  • Financial reporting and budget planning/management.
  • Grants and Partner Compliance.
  • Supporting internal and external audits.
  • Financial Monitoring Visits and partner capacity assessment and training.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, Google Workspace, and at least one major ERP/Accounting software (e.g., PS Financial, Finch, SUN Systems, Agresso, QuickBooks, Oracle).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Amharic.
  • Highly numerate with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong self-motivation to take initiative and pursue self-learning.
  • Capacity to manage and prioritise multiple tasks effectively, working to deadlines and under pressure.
