Job Description

To support the project implementation at Woreda level, the Senior Assistant will support numerous administrative activities which includes coordinating the project implementation at Woreda level that include forest restoration and conservation, participatory land use planning, forest enterprise development, capacity building and other activities for effective delivery of results. The position will report to Senior Program Officer.

INTRODUCTION

GGGI has a diverse portfolio of programs in developing countries around the world. These in-country programs, together with global products and services, focus on delivering results through an integrated approach of evidence-based green growth planning and implementation aligned to countries’ development priorities. The organization also focuses on knowledge development and management activities which build a strong theoretical and empirical basis for green growth, while providing concrete options and guidance for policy makers; as well as building the conditions for public and private green infrastructure investments.

GGGI is implementing a KOICA funded “Climate Resilient Forest and Landscape Restoration (CRFLR) project in Ethiopia” in partnership with national and regional government partners. The overall goal of this project is to secure provision of ecosystem services and improve climate resilience and green growth that contributes to national development strategy, GGGI’s strategic outcomes and sustainable development goals.

PURPOSE
  • Coordinate system with woreda stakeholders for effective implementation of the project
  • Coordinate the overall implementation of the project activities in the woreda and represent the project in all high-level meetings held in the Woreda
  • Support Woreda staff and government partners to implement restoration of degraded landscapes and forest conservation activities
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual plans and reports of the project
  • Support the project planning, implementation, monitoring, project finance and resources management, execution and reporting as per the project document and set time frame at respective woreda
  • Provide regular administrative support to the kebele facilitators on forest and landscape restoration activities
  • Coordinate the participatory land use planning and implementation in the selected communities
  • Coordinate land holding assessment and compile reports for the project target communities
  • Supervise project staff by providing direction, feedback and support as necessary
ENGAGEMENT
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders and partners at the Woreda level for effective planning and execution of the project
  • Closely collaborate and organize peer to peer experience sharing events for members of Watershed Users’ Associations (WUAs)
DELIVERY
  • Facilitate and organize woreda level workshops, meetings, and related events such as steering and technical committee meetings, trainings, and others
  • Ensure proper recording of project operations, prepare physical and financial reports
  • Ensure implementation of developed models in partnership with project staff and communities at respective woreda
  • Support the allocation of land for restoration activities
  • Support the establishment of nursery sites
  • Ensure that project results are delivered within the framework of GGGI’s policies and procedures and comply with all relevant guidelines and professional standards
  • Ensure gender is integrated and mainstreamed throughout the project output
  • Organize and undertake joint monitoring missions and track progress of activities
  • Provided support to woreda and kebele staff for effective implementation of project activities
  • Ensure proper documentation and sharing of information
  • Provide supports on the establishment CBOs, WUAs and enterprise groups
  • Facilitate and support monitoring visits and project related studies by experts and consultants
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in forestry, natural resources management, Public Administration, Finance or related field of study. MSc is preferred.
  • Preferable 5 years work experiences in forestry and natural resources management, watershed management, project management in NGO or Multilateral organization settings.
  • Fluency in and strong command of English are required.
  • Fluency in local language of the region/area (Afan Oromo for Oromia Region and Sidaamu Afoo for Sidama Region) is highly desirable.
  • Experience in project planning and reporting, documentation and communications is an advantage
  • Understanding on forestry related legal frameworks and policies
  • Experience in facilitation, organizing and conducting stakeholder meetings and workshops
  • Experience in working with rural communities; experience and proven track record in participatory approaches
  • Good level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent communication, proficient in English (verbal and written)
