NDP is the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development in the UN Development System and serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and in Africa the African Union Agenda 2063 on the Africa we want. UNDP’s policy and programme work carried out at HQ, Regional and Country Office (CO) levels, forms a contiguous spectrum of deep, local knowledge to cutting-edge global perspectives and advocacy. Within this context, UNDP invests in a network of field-based and global technical expertise across a wide range of knowledge domains and in support of the signature solutions and organizational capabilities envisioned in the Strategic Plan.

Enabling the network of expertise across the SDGs (and Agenda 2063 in Africa), within and beyond UNDP, SDG Integration is the team that influences, shapes, and activates platforms for intersectional collaboration for complex, multi-faceted, and ‘frontier’ issues in sustainable development. As such, the SDG Integration team is at the heart of UNDP’s Global Policy Network (GPN). The SDG Integration Team in Africa focuses on three broad areas:

Position Purpose:

Under the guidance and supervision of the SDG Integration Advisor, the SDG Integration Analyst will support the three broad areas, notably: – accelerate SDGs and A2063, knowledge and learning, and data and insights. The incumbent will be based at the UNDP Regional Service Centre for Africa (RSCA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In supporting the three broad areas, the incumbent will work with UNDP Country Offices in support of Member States efforts to implement both the SDGs and Agenda 2063. The incumbent will also work with Africa Union Commission to support the implementation of the Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan of Agenda 2063.

UNDP adopts a portfolio approach to accommodate changing business needs and leverage linkages across interventions to achieve its strategic goals. This is a recognition of interconnected nature of development risks & crises that the world is facing and that call for assembling of multidisciplinary teams for an integrated & systemic response. Therefore, UNDP personnel are expected to work across issues, units, functions, teams, and projects in multidisciplinary teams in order to enhance and enable horizontal collaboration.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) OR Bachelor’s with additional 2 years of experience in economics, business administration, social sciences, data science, development studies or related disciplines.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years (with Masters) and 4 years (with Bachelors) of professional work experience providing policy advice and programme support, including in the general area of SDG Integration, public policy formulation and coordination in different development contexts.
  • At least one year experience working in developing country settings is required, experience in Africa is an asset.

Language:

  • Fluency in English, both written and oral. Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
Please note that continuance of appointment beyond the initial 12 months is contingent upon the successful completion of a probationary period.
