Job Description
Are you a motivated and enthusiastic intern keen to join a team of researchers passionate about Africa’s peace and security governance, and African Union issues?
This internship provides a unique opportunity to contribute to topical research, gain hands-on experience in international relations and policy analysis, an in-depth understanding of the African Union (AU), and get exposure to high-level policy discussions. The interm will report to the Head of Africa Peace and Security Governance Programme.
Overview of duties
- Assist in conducting research related to the AU, Regional Economic Communities, and regional and continental policy
- Assist in analysing regional and continental security and governance policies and initiatives
- Identify trends, challenges and opportunities in AU’s peace, security and development work
- Collect and maintain datasets and information on topical issues being considered by the research team, and assist with data analysis
- Assist in organising and coordinating events
- Assist with administration and logistics
Overview of requirements
- A post-graduate degree in international relations, political science, African studies, or a related field
- Good research and analytical skills, with an interest in African politics, international affairs and the AU
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in French is an advantage
- Computer literate, working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and data analysis software (e.g. Excel, SPSS or R) is advantageous
- Organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
- Enthusiasm for teamwork and collaboration in a dynamic, multicultural environment
The contract will be for 6 months and a monthly stipend will be offered.
