Background
The Center for Victims of Torture (CVT) is an international non-governmental organization founded in the United States in 1985. CVT provides direct and indirect services, with offices in the United States, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kenya, Uganda and Iraq, and partner networks in many more countries. Learn more about CVT here: https://www.cvt.org/
CVT has extended rehabilitative care to survivors of trauma living in Ethiopia since 2012. To address the grief resulting from the devastating civil conflict in Northern Ethiopia, CVT has introduced a new initiative in Ethiopia. The Brief Grief Intervention (BGI) is designed as a 6-hour, 3-day intervention, developed by CVT to address the psychological, physical and social effects of grief in the context of organized violence and armed conflict. It is a trauma-focused intervention facilitated by trained local Ethiopian clinical mental health providers, working with clinical supervisors.
Evaluation Purpose and Scope
CVT plans to contract an external evaluator to review the feasibility and acceptability of the BGI based on the initial pilot phase of implementation. The purpose of the evaluation is to determine if the BGI is feasible, acceptable and of added value to the existing services CVT provides in Ethiopia.
Timeline
This evaluation will begin on February 20th, 2025 and be completed by April 28th, 2025.
IRB Review
Please note that CVT may request a Program Evaluation Exemption approval (through internal review), particularly if the method(s) involve direct engagement with clients from BGI and/or other services.
