PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

TechnoServe is implementing the USAID-funded Alliance for Inclusive and Nutritious Food Processing (AINFP) regional program in collaboration with Partners in Food Solutions (PFS). The program leverages the power of the private sector to create better nutritional outcomes for base-of-the-pyramid consumers and more profitable market opportunities for local farmers. This is achieved by supporting local food processing companies in Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Ethiopia through remote technical assistance and training from world-leading food processing companies under PFS to increase the availability of safe, affordable, and nutritious food.

Through this partnership, the AINFP program seeks to promote entrepreneurship, and financial and digital inclusion among women-owned, -led, or –managed businesses through leadership, mentoring, and networking activities aimed at enhancing their business leadership.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT

TechnoServe seeks a consultant to provide ad-hoc/part-time support to design and integrate networking and mentorship activities into the AINFP program with a specific focus on women who own, lead, or management food processing companies. The consultant will work closely with the AINFP Regional Training Advisor, the Regional Program Quality Manager, and the Global Gender Practice, and will also collaborate with other consultants supporting gender-related activities as needed.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Support peer-to-peer learning and coaching opportunities -30days per quater

  • Design quarterly networking sessions, in collaboration with local associations and women’s networks, to foster connections between women business leaders in the agricultural processing industry in Zambia, Kenya, and Tanzania.
  • Work with 2 women leaders per country(total 6) to facilitate peer-to-peer exchanges
  • Support the mentorship between women leaders and volunteer experts within Partners in Food Solutions, as needed.

Support AINFP internship program

  • Support the recruitment of women bachelor’s and master’s students to find placement opportunities in industrial food processing businesses.
  • Design networking and peer-to-peer learning activities specifically for interns

Document lessons learned and profiles of women business leaders

  • Develop a series of learning products and profiles around women business leaders and interns
  • Document lessons learned from networking, mentoring, and leadership course

DELIVERABLES

  1. Concept design and work plan for each networking or mentoring activity, with a work plan
  2. 3-5 learning products including but not limited to profiles of women businesses

 REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s with at least 5 years of experience (or Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience) in gender & development, education or curriculum development, business management, communications or other relevant field
  • Experience organizing events
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with networking or mentoring program a plus
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
  • Good stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to work within limited time constraints in the preparation of high-quality documents
  • Proficiency in English is required.
  • Self-starter with a passion for learning and transformation.
