Request for Expressions of Interest for the Recruitment of Individual Consultant

Background:

The Centre for Innovative Drug Development and Therapeutic Trials for Africa (CDT-Africa) is a World Bank-supported Africa center of excellence for higher education and research at the College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Centre aims to improve access to health care through novel medical discoveries (medicines, vaccines, diagnostics, care delivery mechanisms) supported by clinical trials. With this in mind, CDT Africa wants to invite qualified applicants for the post of “Health Communication and Dissemination Expert” for Africa Health Observatory Platform (AHOP)-Ethiopia National Center at College of Health Sciences (CHS) of Addis Ababa University (AAU). The objectives of the Platform are synthesizing existing research generating new evidence, and facilitating knowledge exchange (through various communication and dissemination channels) to support regional and national health system improvements by

• producing country health system and services profile (CHSSP);
•  conducting comparative and thematic studies;
•  producing policy briefs (PBS);
•  writing blogs; and
•  conducting policy dialogues (PDs).

The role of the expert for the advertised post is communicating and disseminating generated health evidence by the Ethiopian National Center to stakeholders of the Center and the regional platform. The attention of interested Consultants is drawn to paragraph 1.9 of the World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits & Grants by World Bank Borrowers, January 2011 (“Consultant Guidelines”), setting forth the World Bank’s policy on conflict of interest.

• Term of appointment: three-month individual consultant with possible renewal. The work requirement of the consultant will be a maximum of 30% of standard working hours.

Assignment Title: Health Communication and Dissemination Consulting Services of AAU -ACES CDT Africa

Qualifications: 

• Educational/professional background: MSc. in health policy, health sciences, Doctor of Medicine, MA in Journalism and Communication, English Literature, or related fields.
• Excellent communication skills in English and Amharic (both verbally and in writing)
• High level of computer skills in Microsoft Office application

Experience

•  Developing communication and dissemination plans aimed at a wide range of audiences
• Writing blogs and another web content o Working with social media to disseminate outputs
• Project leader/manager/providing training/evaluating or reviewing different project proposals, or research outputs
•  Planning, monitoring, and managing activities
•  Promotion and dissemination of products/outputs

Reporting the deliverables

• The consultant shall closely coordinate its activities and report to the Head of the Center or any delegated authority of the Center
