The Carter Center is a not-for-profit international NGO committed to waging peace, fighting disease and building hope worldwide. The Carter Center – Ethiopia, which assists the Government of Ethiopia in Disease Elimination and Eradication Programs is looking for a qualified professional to fill the following post for Regional Project Coordinator for its Oncho/LF Elimination Program.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Plays pivotal role to liaison the regional/ Metekel zone project among TCC-E and the regional health bureau and other sectors as appropriate
  • Technically support both the RHB and Metekel zone health department for the effective and timely accomplishment of project activities
  • Coordinates and provides necessary supports to the undertaking of surveys, MDA schedules and mentoring and supervision activities planned by TCCE/RHB including obtaining letter of supports, ethical clearance, and administrative supports.
  • Works closely with BoFEC and other relevant offices in preparation of annual plan of action (POA).
  • Monitors proper implementation of RB/LF POA in the project areas.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly project performance report to BOFED and RHB
  • Produce and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual project performance report to CO/RPO
  • Monitors performance of the projects against project agreements and PoA.
  • Participates in the development/revision of RB/LF guidelines, training manuals, IFC/BCC materials and other program inputs.
  • In consultation with the Program Manager regularly updates BoFED, RHB, ZHDs and Zone Finance and Economy Development Departments on progress of projects implementation.
  • Works on strengthening of RB/LF taskforces at region and zone levels.
  • Participates in Oncho/LF Elimination workshops in the respective region, zones, and elsewhere, when requested and approved by TCCE/RHB.
  • Plan and execute/follow partnership meetings, work together with the RHB to organize regular supervision activities to the zone.
  • Organizes quarterly/semiannual partnership meeting with the RHB and TCCE in consultation with PM, project compliance and partnership officer, DCR-O and all relevant stakeholders
  • Works to ensure cross border collaboration activities are in due course both internally and with neighboring countries and monitors and keep updating on its progress.
  • Facilitates the development of Project proposals, agreements and MoU between TCCE and the RHB and makes stringent follow up to its proper execution
  • Support and coordinates level III GWEP implementation and promotes the cash reward assessment in the region.
  • Collaborate with the RHB/BoFEC in other/NTDs activities and show up supportive partnership engagement
  • Provides comprehensive and continued support to Metekel ZPO for which he serves as a mentor (at least 30-40% of his time).
  • Performs other duties as instructed by supervisor.

Required Number: 1(One)

Terms of Employment:  One year contract with a possibility of extension

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in public health, project management or related fields from a recognized university 
  • Minimum of seven years relevant experience in health projects management and coordination, preferably NTDs .

Additional Requirements:

  • Reasonably good experience in project management and coordination
  • Able to speak local Language and has working experience in the area
  • Willingness to travel and work in remote areas
  • Good computer skills, especially in data management
  • Recommendation letter from the most recent employer
  • Able to present release letter from current employer in two weeks after job offer
