Job Description

The Danish Red Cross’ (DRC) international Strategy works towards a vision of a world in which societies throughout the world are bound by a spirit of community aiming to turn humanity into everyone’s concern.

The DRC Information Management (IM) team leads the development and maintenance of centralized systems and setups for data processing and analysis, while also “translating” these to other organizational parts of DRC as well as implementing national society staff and volunteers, building their capacity within data collection, data management and data analysis, as well as following new trends, possibilities, and innovations. The IM team supports DRC’s international operations with data enablers to advance quality and learning within projects and programmes, and also leads the Strategic Priority of the International Strategy 2022-2025 of “promoting data-informed decision-making and action across DRC’s international operations”.

The Regional IM Officer will work as integrated part of the global IM Team, but will focus on Africa. DRC has nine main priority country programmes in Africa: Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Somalia, Kenya, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Malawi. The strategic priorities for the region are non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including mental health, anticipatory action, inclusion and migration as well as youth action, branch development, innovative financing and community engagement and accountability (CEA).

Key responsibilities

  • Provide technical advice and support on IM tools, systems, and processes to all DRC-supported operations and partners, primarily in Africa
  • Support DRC country offices and African Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies in setting up systems for data collection, data management and data analysis that
  • enable data-informed operational and strategic decision-making
  • Support and build the IM-related capacity of relevant local partners in support of IFRC’s Digital Transformation Strategy, contributing to their organizational
  • development as key national humanitarian organizations
  • Provide technical advice and support for innovative pilot projects focused on use of data and/or digital solutions that improve the impact of DRC supported operations

Your profile​

  • Proven experience working with data visualization tools, including report/dashboard-building (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)
  • Proven experience working with survey systems (e.g. KoboToolbox)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, incl. Power Query
  • Strong facilitation skills and a track-record in capacity building, ideally of national partner organizations
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in the field of IT or other IM-relevant field
  • Strong capacity for quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Fluent English speaking and well-developed written English. Proficiency in French is a strong advantage
  • Able to travel within the Africa region, including to fragile and insecure contexts, up to 25% of work time
  • Results-orientated but at the same time innovative and flexible, and with the judgment to evaluate and prioritise the workload
  • Understanding that process and ownership are key to achieving results in culturally and politically sensitive environments.
  • Self-reliant, able to work confidently and with flexibility in frequently changing contexts, within the parameters of DRC standards.
  • Excellent diplomacy, communication, coordination, negotiation, and networking; combined with proactivity and high integrity.

Employment Conditions The position is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the DRC regional office. The IM Officer will report directly to Head of Africa Region with a technical reference line to the IM Team Lead at HQ.

Expected start date is 1 January 2023, and the length of the contract is 24 months with the possibility of extension. The salary including all allowances and pension payment will be between DKK 43,800 – 46,200 per month, depending on qualifications and experience. An individual furnished apartment in Addis Ababa is provided, free of charge.
