PATH in Ethiopia is currently implementing various high impact projects with the aim of saving and improving the lives of the most vulnerable and underserved women and children in the country. Currently, PATH is looking for regional level TA for Somali and Sidama regions to provide technical assistance for the HPV multiage cohort vaccination campaign, switch to single dose vaccination rollout in the regions. The regional TA will be seconded to Somali and Sidama regions. The regional TA will report to the Project Director, Vaccine and Immunization programs, over all responsible person based in Addis Ababa.
  • The regional TA will work as part of the regional technical support team and will provide technical assistance to Somali and Sidama regions Immunization team to successfully conduct multiage cohort HPV vaccination campaign and HPV switch from two doses to single dose.
  • Support development regional communication plan for the HPV MAC campaign and single dose switch rollout, and other new vaccine introductions in collaboration in collaboration with RHB EPI team and other TAs and follow-up for timely execution of each activity.
  • Identify risks and potential delays to timely execution and subsequently work with RHB and PATH and other partners to develop mitigation plans.
  • Coordinate post-launch monitoring and implementation activities to support acceleration of coverage, including identifying bottlenecks.
Key duties and responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support for regional EPI team in the overall planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring, communication, and demand creation activities for HPV MAC campaign and switch to single dose vaccination activities and routine immunization services.
  • Work closely within regional government to facilitate liaising with partners and stakeholders, in order to ensure continuity of the implementation of the planned activities for HPV MAC and single dose switch and other planned EPI activities.
  • Assist Sidama/Somali RHB to facilitate the different technical working group meetings in preparation and timely distribution of training manuals, guidelines, job-aids, and communication tools on HPV Vaccine.
  • Organize zonal and district bottom-up micro-planning –exercise and collect and compile MPs at regional level.
  • Support and coordinate regional communication working group in developing/adapting appropriate communication materials for HPV MAC campaign and single dose switch roll out.
  • Follow up and make sure all vaccines and other necessary supplies are timely distributed.
  • Facilitate advocacy visits to different stake holders at regional and zonal levels.
  • Support RHB in clearly communicating roles and responsibilities of lower administrative levels in HPV MAC campaign and single dose switch vaccination rollout.
  • Serve as a focal person for PATH’s HPV vaccine-related work in the region.
  • Execute additional responsibility given by supervisor.
Required number: 1 (one) per Region.
Duration: 10 (ten) months with possibility for extension

Job Requirements

Required qualification and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health Officer or BSc nursing or master’s degree in public health or related field.
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience for first degree and five (5) years for master’s degree in public health programming, with experience in the area of immunization and maternal/child health programs and new vaccine introduction.
  • Proven ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with government, partners, donors and international organizations at various levels.
  • Experience in facilitating meetings and moderating complex discussions with a variety of stakeholders (including religious and clan leaders) preferred.
  • Ability to be effective in high-pressure situations, handles multiple tasks simultaneously, and set priorities and work under minimal/remote supervision.
  • Skilled in successfully working with geographically dispersed teams and working in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, including cross-cultural teams.
  • Experience in using Microsoft offices (power point, outlook, excel and word) and statistical packages like Epi info, SPSS, STATA and other apps like ODK.
  • Excellent  written and oral communication skills in English and knowing local language is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of the political, social, economic, and cultural context of regions.
  • Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to districts, estimated to be about 60%.
