Project background

BRIDGE+ is a five-year programme (from November 2023 to December 2028) implemented by a consortium of partners composed of SNV Netherlands Development Organization (lead) and Wageningen University (WUR and Agriterra, with the financial support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN).

The overall objective of the BRIDGE+ programme is to contribute to a functioning dairy Value Chain that creates inclusive and sustainable benefits for all its participants, including wider society, with particular focus on smallholder farmers within the mixed farming system. To attain this objective, the project will operate at three levels: (1) smallholder farmers: increase benefits from dairy farming; (2) dairy value chain: improving functioning and food safety; and (3) at sector level: strengthening institutional structure.

Purpose of the job

The Regional Dairy Adviser works directly under the guidance and management of the Regional Manager and is based in the regional office. As the Regional Adviser will be working under the direct supervision of and be assigned duties by the Regional Manager, this is more of a learning position for either a staff member, keen to make a next career move, or somebody who is new to the project approaches.

The purpose of the position is to act as a link between the national level and the milkshed level. It will mainly focus on two roles. On the one hand, implementation at the milkshed level will be monitored, both in terms of quantity (are project targets met?) and quality (are interventions aligned with strategy?). The results of the monitoring will be shared with national advisers and project management. The second role is supporting implementation at milkshed level, either in the form of participating in targeted campaigns or through coaching and supporting regional level partners in implementation.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Advisory Service – Supports the implementation of all project components and assignments within the various milksheds covered by the regional office. Monitors overall project implementation and provides direct support to Dairy Milkshed Advisers.
  • Knowledge Development – Leads internal and external knowledge development products and processes within the regional office, sharing of lessons learned for application in daily practice.
  • Project and Process development – Develops implementation modalities and contributes to strategy adjustments as part of the project team, based on lessons learned.
  • Positioning – Contributes to the identification of market opportunities and threats within the context.
  • Business Development – Is aware of and identifies opportunities for Business Development policies and procedures. Provides support to proposal development.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a specialized/ relevant technical field.
  • At least 4 years’ experience in development work and project implementation, of which at least 2 years in the dairy sector. This is a position, ideally suited for an early career professional, with the ambition to pursue a career.

  • Excellent understanding of the culture and ways of living of target communities
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Speaks the local language fluently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and excellent awareness about communities, government structure and etc.
  • Good report writing skill and able to collect document and share records and information.
  • Computer proficiency is required.
