Main Purpose
Provide psychological support to patients according to MSF principles and protocols in order to improve the patients’ mental health.

 

Accountabilities
ü  Carrying out evaluation of mental health needs of patients and establishing a diagnosis and a plan of treatment. Informing the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and referring patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient’s condition

ü  Implementing the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment.

Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health conditions

ü  Assisting and training staff members and other actors   whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities. Working in close collaboration with translators in order to ensure appropriate terminology and behavior during sessions

ü  Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities

ü  Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective

ü  Ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential.

Job Accountabilities  –  Field Focus

ü  Responsible for staff mental health in MSF projects in Tigray: to support in staff mental health and other relevant mental health related topics in the working atmosphere.

ü  Raising mental health awareness among MSF staff & lowering the threshold for staff to seek mental Health support.

ü  Conducting psychosocial group discussions & mental health educational sessions among MSF staff to support in (among others): stress management & self-care in the working environment; in a healthy working atmosphere & team dynamics; communication among the teams; resilience in the face of change, adversity or significant life stress.

ü  Giving staff the opportunity to have 1 on 1 confidential consultations & follow-up sessions to support in individual mental health

ü  Regular visits to the different projects and provide the support as needed in collaboration with Deputy Medical Coordinators and MTLs.

ü  Sharing recommendation with projects and coordination on regular basis.

ü  Meet with Deputy Medco/MTLs on a regular basis to discuss any staff mental health staff issues or updates.

ü  Will immediately report any incidents related staff mental health to Deputy Medco/MTLs.

ü  As needed, will attend medical meetings, and project meetings

Job Requirements

Requirements
Education ·         Essential degree or diploma in Psychology
Experience ·         2 years’ experience minimum as a Psychologist Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries
Languages ·       English Language, essential, Tigrigna language, essential.
Knowledge ·      Computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
