Job Summary

The psychologist will be based at the Tigray Region /Axum – Ahasea field office with frequent travel to the Project sites The overall responsibility is to directly or indirectly carry out prevention, management and/or research activities in the area of mental health and psychosocial support. S/he will be under the direct supervision of Health Program manager with technical link with the mission MHPSS / GBV Advisor.

Essential duties and responsibilities.

Under the supervision of the Health Program manager  (plus technical link with the medical coordinator mission and  MHPSS / GBV Advisor , the psychologist has the responsibility to:

  •  Implementation of the activities according to the logical framework: counselling, identify GBV cases, creating links with organizations working on MHPSS services.
  • Assess patient needs, their personal situation and, strengths in order to develop plans to improve their well-being.
  • Determines the state of wellbeing of beneficiaries’ situation by interviewing the client; assessing psychological, emotional, and social information; making on-site visits.
  • Coaches Social workers, HEWs and community mobilizers in their community-based at project sites.
  • Designs and animates psychosocial and recreational and group activities with the community Mobilizers, HEWs and Social workers. Those activities aim to create awareness about M H and psychological needs and develop positive copying mechanisms, self-care and community care practices and promote positive self-esteem among beneficiaries.
  • Offers individual counselling for cases self-referred or referred by the HEWs or community mobilizers or health care providers at different program sites.
  • Conduct psychosocial activities e.g. individual counselling, group counselling sessions or support groups for special needs e.g. PLHIV or GBV survivors, risk reduction sessions.
  • Organizes, facilitates and conducts specific trainings on GBV issues/MHPSS/PFA for health care workers according to the needs.
  • Obtains assistance for the beneficiaries referring them to community resources; arranging for appointments; establishing referral linkage with other agencies.
  • Maintains records of cases by documenting the beneficiaries’ situations and adhering to data protection regulations.
  • Monitors planned actions through regular follow-up.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of beneficiaries personal information receiving PSS services
  • Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing interrelated results as needed.
  • Follows up with beneficiaries to ensure that their situations and wellbeing has progressed
  • Participates in MHPSS work group coordination meetings at field level
  • Reports on MHPSS activities in the monthly progress activities report
  • Performs any other task assigned by the Health Program Manager
  • .Participates in demand creation activities to increase service utilization

Duty station: The Psychologist will be based at Tigray Region -Axum – Ahasea field office with frequent travel to the Project sites.

Employment Term: 6 Months with possibility of extension

Basic Salary: 37,440.00 ETB

Reported to: Under the direct supervision of Health Program manager with technical link with the mission MHPSS / GBV Advisor.

Job Requirements

Educational Qualification

  • Msc /BSC Degree in Clinical  Psychology or related field having Training / certification in MH Gap in PHC

Work Experience

  • At least 3 years of working experience as Psychologist in health care setting / Counsellor in a health facility in emergency situations
  • Experience with other NGO is a plus.
  • Demonstrable experience in reporting, supervising and training others in a team setting.

Skills and qualities required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good computer skills: MS Word and MS Excel
  • Ability to assess people’s mental capacities.
  • Organize an individual or institutional therapeutic framework (adjusting treatment to patients and their environments)
  • Identify the individual’s family and social environment and identify mental capacities and vulnerabilities
  • Choose a psychological support method (including referral), suggest psychosocial support activities
  • Know how to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Formalize and communicate professional know-how
  • Lead an individual, group and family psychotherapy session, guide people during exercises (role playing, relaxation, etc.)
  • Conduct and interpret personality and cognitive tests
  • Conduct psychological interviews
  • Draft and format clinical notes, documents and/or reports relating to the specialist area
  • Understand clinical psychology and psychopathology, particularly in relation to the group in question.

Languages

 

  • English and  Tigrina  language are mandatory (speaking and writing)
  • French language a plus.
