Job Description

·         Provides guidance and coordination service on the overall trans boundary livestock disease control ensuring that activities are in line with the project strategy and approach.

·         Responsible for leading disease prevention and control interventions mainly voucher based livestock treatment, Vaccination response, PDS and animal health professional’s capacity building and play advisory role in each of the disease control strategies.

·         Ensure the timely preparation of various inputs and public goods and logistics to conduct treatment and PDS finding informed Vaccination

·         Serve as a resource person on the implementation of the TADs disease control activities specifically on the disease search & vaccination campaign activities.

·         Provide coordination and technical inputs on various capacity building trainings for professionals and CAHWs on focused trans boundary animal disease control strategy in Project Targeted Areas

·         Liaise with Livestock health responsible government bodies, relevant national and international NGOs operating in the livestock sector to ensure information sharing and coordination,

·         Providing technical support to partners and in particular government (BCO); and proven capacity to develop a network of contacts with key players from amongst government, donors, international agencies and NGOs.

·         Support, enable and facilitate close and collaborative relationships between Borana field offices and key stakeholders/partners across VSF-Suisse intervention areas

·         Support communication between field offices and Branch coordination office (BCO) to ensure project related progresses are reported to FAO and CO timely

·         Critically assess capacity gaps that may hinder effective implementation of the project activities and develop solutions as required.

·         Coordinate and harmonize the design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of the project within the logical framework

·         Ensuring that Monitoring & Evaluation plans are implemented with the involvement of relevant stakeholders mainly FAO

·         Support the organization in other operations or roles as required by the Country office

Job Requirements

·         Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Master’s Degree in animal production, animal science, veterinary epidemiology or another relevant field.

·         At least 5 years (for DVM) or 3 years (for MSc) experience in animal health related capacity buildings, extension and outreach veterinary service delivery services, PRA tools and/or participatory epidemiology techniques.

·         Solid understanding of Ethiopian Oromia region pastoral livestock production systems, Broad perspective on transboundary livestock diseases, veterinary disease reporting and outbreak investigation.

·         Knowledge of the current national livestock development policy directions and strategies Work experience in UNFAO or other donor-funded programs a plus.

·         Team spirit, strong interpersonal communications and leadership skills.

·         Communication skill both in electronic and print media

·         Report writing skill (very mandatory)

·         Excellent adaptive problem-solver in challenging environment.

·         Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

·         Fluency in English and Afan Oromo is required; knowledge of other working languages is a plus.

·         Proficient Microsoft Office user.
