Ethiopian Media Women Association (EMWA) is a non-partisan, non-profit professional association established in 1999 to promote women’s rights through and in the media. Since its establishment in 1999, EMWA has been engaged in advancing professional freedom, excellence, and ethical conduct among women journalists and media practitioners. Currently, it has over 100 members, from all fields of media and communication: private and government media, NGOs, international organizations, communication agencies, and professional individual women media practitioners. EMWA has members in all the regions and cities’ administration but liaising committees in Amhara, Oromia, Dire Dawa, Harar, Somali, and SNNPR. The association re-registered in 2019 after the new law on civil society organizations passed.

EMWA is looking for potential applicants for the following positions The Project Officer will develop project proposals, and design, manage and implement projects.

The Project Officer (PO) is required to provide a full range of project management support, including:

  • Support to plan, design, and deliver project activities
  • Ensure short-term contracts are managed per their terms of reference
  • Monitor activity and budget implementation
  • Write activity reports
  • Develop and maintain a sound network of government and other stakeholder counterparts
  • Undertake a range of administrative duties and tasks that may reflect substantial variety and complexity
  • Update EMWA Executive Board regularly on project development and implementation
  • Provide support in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) team with activity tracking and monitoring, data collection, database administration, and M&E related coordination with counterparts, as required.

Job Requirements

  • BA degree in economics, social sciences, and related fields combined with relevant practical experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience and sound knowledge of project development
  • Demonstrated application of applying operational and administrative guidelines to the design and management of activities
  • Knowledge and related working experience in media and gender-focused projects
  • Ability to plan and manage different events, meetings, and conferences
  • Strong computer skills and good knowledge of relevant software applications
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communications skills, including English language written skills
