Positions Summary

Health Poverty Action/HPA (registered as Health Limited) is an international non-profit founded with the vision towards a global community with equality. HPA approaches inequality in health outcomes beyond medical reasons and from social justice. HPA has more than 37 years of experience in Africa and has been operational in Ethiopia since 2005. HPA has implemented several successful projects in Afar, Addis Ababa, Amhara, Benshangul-Gumuz, Oromia, SNNPR and Somali regions. Most of the projects targeted communities residing in hard-to-reach areas with interventions focusing on maternal and child health; sexual and reproductive health and rights – including harmful traditional practices; prevention and control of communicable diseases; addressing malnutrition; GBV prevention and response.

Under the direct line management of the Program Coordinator or designated staff in Addis, the Project Management Support is responsible for the overall support on project management of multiple projects as per the project documents including providing support to country office and field teams, conducting assessments, M&E visits, reports compilations, as well as liaising with the local governmental and non-governmental stakeholders of HPA as per the guidance of the line manager.

Main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Support Project managers, Field Coordinators and Program Manager in drafting the monthly, quarterly, and annual implementation plan, in coordination with partners.
  • Act as a focal point to manage daily contact, provide technical inputs and support to local government partners (province, districts, communes/ wards, and schools) in implementation of activities to ensure activities are implemented in a high quality, effective, and timely manner.
  • Conduct regular monitoring trips to supervise partners and field staff to implement project activities.
  • Collect data from health facilities, communities, and districts to develop monitoring data of the project.
  • Provide inputs and assist project staff in the compilation of data and information for monthly, quarterly, six-month, and annual reports for the assigned project sites.
  • Report to the program manager and work with relevant teams to address arising issues at the field.
  • Maintain database, records for case studies, photos, and other data for project planning and documentation;
  • Coordinate all logistical issues for visits, project activities and other related tasks.
  • Work with Program staff to follow up monitoring and evaluation of projects.
  • Collect case stories and write up case studies for projects;
  • Other additional tasks as assigned by her/his supervisor.

DurationEight months contract with the possibility of extension upon satisfactory performance appraisal and availability of funding.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in public health, MD/Nursing, social science, or equivalent is required for this role.
  • Two years of experience related to program management in the above areas.
  • NGO work experience in pastoral communities is an asset.
  • Understanding of the Ethiopian health and nutrition policy and strategies, as well as the sectoral plans including the health extension platform.
  • Understands health service delivery of government health facilities.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Good track record of organizing and coordination ability in work and other related areas
  • Good command in written and spoken English.
  • Good communication skills and Team player
  • Willingness to work under pressure and extra hours.
  • Good command in local languages.
