Job Description

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Project Associate – Better Dairy for All (BDFA) to implement the BDFA project activities across GAIN Ethiopia. This role will be on a fixed-term contract of up to 4 years, with extension subject to availability of funding.

This position will be based in the Amhara region, in Bahir Dar city. Up to 50% of the Project Associate’s time will include travel within Amhara to the woredas. Applicants must be currently based in the Bahir Dar, Amahara region to be eligible to apply for this position.

About the Role

The Better Dairy for All (BDFA) project is one of the projects that has been implemented in Ethiopia and it aims to improve the consumption of dairy products by pregnant mothers, lactating women, children under 7yrs, and low wage workers.

Reporting to the BDFA Project Manager, the Project Associate will provide deputy support with a particular focus on the BDFA project implementation in at least 28 urban and rural woredas of Amhara region including in South Gondar, East Gojam, West Gojam and Awi zones.

You will be expected to directly implement specific project components as directed and delegated by the BDFA Project Manager, in addition to high-level coordination and administrative support.

Key Responsibilities include;

  • Supporting the development of detailed plan for the implementation of project in Amhara and make sure it is in line with available resources
  • Conducting regular field visits to ensure the project progress is on track and risk mitigation plan is up to date
  • Working closely with the Project Manager and the project teams to ensure project documentation has been adequately prepared and recorded in a timely and accurate manner in compliance with GAIN standards
  • Supporting the Project Manager in the overall reporting of the BDFA project progress in Amhara including the government and donor submission as well as the GAIN internal requirements
  • Working with the Junior Demand Creation Associate to monitor the intervention and deliverables of the Local Implementing Partner (LIP) and consultants in Amhara and providing timely monitoring reports
  • Providing technical support through formal training, on job training and frequent supervision to the selected dairy processors and suppliers based on their identified gaps for quality and safe dairy supply
  • Supporting the development of appropriate communication materials, technical documents, advocacy briefs and related materials to drive key project activities

About You

  • The ideal candidate should have demonstratable experience working in a project management and / or project coordination role in Ethiopia within the food systems, nutrition, agriculture, or public health space.
  • You should have experience and understanding of the dairy sector and private sector and experience supporting with technical assistance to SMEs. Candidate with experience with nutrition, food systems, public-private sector partnerships would be an advantage.
  • The postholder should have proven ability to use initiative, prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines and sound experience in project implementation independently .
  • You should be an excellent team player, fluent in English and good command in Amharic (both verbal and written) and able to work in multi-cultural, multi-lingual environments.
  • The postholder should be highly flexible, willing and able to travel in challenging environments. Candidate with Bachelors’ Degree in Agribusiness and Supply Chain, or Dairy Technology, Business Administration or Agricultural Economics or other relevant fields is desirable.

About our Offer

The starting salary on offer for this role is from ETB 498,696 – ETB 570,456 per annum, depending on experience.
