Job Description

The Comitato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo dei Popoli – International Committee for the Development of Peoples (CISP) is a non-governmental international organization established in 1983 in Italy. CISP has been operating in Ethiopia since 1986 and since then has always been alongside local institutions and communities to face humanitarian emergencies and lay the foundations for the consolidation of long-term development processes.

In the last 35 years in Ethiopia CISP has been implementing more than 200 multi-sectoral and multi-regional projects, mainly in the sectors of food security and rural development, Livelihood, WASH, Education, Health, Migration, Protection, CMDRR, and Emergency and Rehabilitation in Oromia, Tigray, Benishangul Gumuz, Somali, Afar regions and Addis Ababa City Administration. In all projects, CISP set gender, children, and environment either mainstream or as cross-cutting issues.

Currently CISP in partnership with other IPs starting a project that support refugees, IDPs and Host Communities in Melkadida/Boqolmayo and Awbare areas of Somali region through an integrated project contains livelihood, health and protection sectoral activities.

The Agronomist will perform the following duties in coordination and under supervision of the Project Coordinator:

  •  Responsible to overall management and implementation of the agricultural and food security components of the project called “From Emergency to Resilience: Integrated path in Support of Vulnerable populations of Refugees, Displaced Persons, and Residents in Aw-Bere and Bokolmayo, Somali Regional State – (REVERS)”, implementing by CISP in Melkadida/Boqolmayo Woreda of Liben  Zone, Somali National Regional State,
  • Conduct assessment and identify the necessary agricultural inputs (seeds, fertilizer and farm tools) to be provided to beneficiaries,
  • Involve directly on the construction and management of small scale irrigation system by farmer,
  • Organize and facilitate technical trainings to local  community workers and beneficiaries,
  • Prepare periodic action plan and ensure activities are implemented according to plans and budgets, donor requirements and that activities are executed in line with acceptable quality standards in ways that are responsive to communities’ needs
  • In collaboration of other relevant officers/experts responsible for compiling monthly, quarterly and terminal reports of the project activities being under his/her responsibility per the government and donor formats and submit to the project/area coordinator;
  • Prepare a database/profile of the REVERS Project beneficiaries to monitor the progress and contribution of the project as well as detail the implementation of the project strategies in regular bases;
  •  Integrate community approach, gender sensitivity, and capacity building into all activities as appropriate
  • Apply the project strategies to promote income generating activities for targeted refugees, IDPs and Host communities and assessment of key challenges to inclusiveness, productivity and efficiency,
  • Prepare ToRs,  MoUs, contracts, partnership frameworks as required for the implementation of the specific activities and submit to the project coordinator for approval;
  • Ensure feedbacks from target communities and stakeholders are regularly collected, documented and timely responded;
  • In collaboration with other staff, aggregate the routine M&E findings, interesting stories, short video clips and publish on the donor and government periodic reports;
  • Regularly monitor potential risks, and implementation challenges and, together with all project staffs and consortium members and other partners towards proactively seeking solutions for the activities under his/her responsibilities;
  • Involve in documentation and sharing of the result findings related to printed, audio visual and related materials including of publication of these materials on the website;
  • Take part in project evaluation and dissemination outcomes.
  • Perform other additional duties as per the directives of the country office.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • B.Sc. degree in agronomy/crop production, irrigation, general agriculture and related field;
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience for B.Sc. with a thorough understanding of all areas of project management cycles in development and humanitarian settings.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Somali culture, language, tradition and pastoral context;

Competencies/Technical Skills:

  • Good knowledge of Development project Management/Coordination.
  • Track record of successful work experience and results in project management in NGOs setting
  • Result oriented and team player,
  • Knowledge and understanding of Project Cycle Management (PCM),
  • Excellent computer skills: Microsoft Office, MS Project,
  • Proficiency of English, Somali and Amharic,
  • Firm belief in teamwork, gender equality
  • Commitment to values and working styles of CISP Movement,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – builds good relationships with internal and external stakeholders and maintain effective collaboration with all staff,
  • Ability to manage a complex and demanding workload,
  •  Ability to travel with the country whenever required.
