Job Description

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Data and Research Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Data Analyst and Reporting Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for assisting with the production and dissemination of thematic DTM information products in close coordination with the clusters and working groups including, but not limited to, cluster thematic dashboards, regional reports, situation updates, displacement profiles, rapid response assessment reports and other relevant products.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Draft specific inputs to assist with the development of Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) reporting and analysis plans, thematic information products, and ad hoc assessments in close coordination with the clusters and relevant external partners.
  2. Provide feedback to the DTM Data Analyst and Reporting Officer for the improvement of the aesthetic of DTM information management products.
  3. Under the close guidance of the DTM information management team and DTM Data Analyst and Reporting Officer, participate in producing infographics and data visualizations that improve data user understanding of DTM data.
  4. Analyze dissemination methods for DTM information products and the positioning of DTM products among users through social media and different communications and outreach channels appropriate to the country, and recommend possible improvements.
  5. With the approval of the DTM Programme Manager, upload DTM reports to the website and facilitate the timely sharing of products with Headquarters (HQs) and the Regional Office as assigned.
  6. Review and recommend specific information for inclusion in the development of DTM reports.
  7. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • Master’s degree in Graphic Design, Media, Journalism and Political Science or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or,
  • University degree in the above fields with two years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Experience in media, information management, analysis, graphic design, editing and publishing or similar at professional or intern level;
  • Previous experience with IOM DTM reporting is an advantage; and,
  • Previous experience in Ethiopia is an advantage.

Skills

  • Ability to use publishing software like Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Publisher and others;
  • Ability to use graphic design software like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and others;
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel; and,
  • Ability to use data visualization software like PowerBI, Tableau and others is an advantage(not essential if applicants meet other criteria).

Languages

  • IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.
  • For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.
  • Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Other:

Internationally recruited professional staff are required to be mobile.

This selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates endorsed by the Appointments and Postings Board will remain eligible to be appointed in a similar position for a period of 24 months.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and security clearances. Subject to certain exemptions, vaccination against COVID-19 will in principle be required for individuals hired on or after 15 November 2021. This will be verified as part of the medical clearance process.
