Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity for a Production Agronomist based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Learn how you can be our voice in the conversation about the future of agriculture.

Your Challenge:

  • Based on Corteva’s Maize Hybrid seed demand and sales forecast, plan area and quantity of raw seed to be produced in the year.
  • Plan and execute detailed activities accordingly. These activities include:
    • Determining the quantity of parent seed required and Involve in the importation process.
    • Select seed growers based on growers matrix.
    • Involve/supervise in every aspect of seed production at field (this involve:- block selection at each farm; planting, fertilization, cultivation, crop protection, roguing of off-types, De-tasseling, Male removal, yield estimations, harvesting/shelling and delivery of raw seeds);
    • Organize and follow up the visit of seed production fields by the governmental seed quality inspection Authorities and follow up the certification process.
    • Implementation of grower/field evaluation process across all site;
  • Carry out production Improvement trails/tests at field
    • Identify what type(s) field trails needed and identify and follow-up some necessary tests such as soil and leaf analysis.
    • Plan the trials/tests.
    • Execute
    • Analyze, make recommendations and practice
  • Implement Corteva Safety, Health and Security (EH & S) values
    • Complete all required trainings according to the time plan
    • Report incidences related to EH & S.
    • Audit Contractor Core Values (CCVs)
  • Considering all the major activities outlined above, set a yearly goal, evaluate as necessary and comment.

 Work Location: Temporarily workplace will be in AF-Addis Ababa/Menegesha site. But he/she is going to spend more than 70% of his/her time at seed production sites in all locations in Ethiopia.

Qualifications

To Grow What Matters, You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture sciences or related field
  • Having at least 5 years of experience in agricultural field management
  • Experience in seed production
    • Experience with field trainings
    • PC skills
    • English language is a must
