Job Description

MISSION AND MAIN ACTIVITIES

Organizing and ensuring medical consultations to the targeted population through the MHNT, providing treatment to patients within the scope of his/her medical competencies and referring them when appropriate, according to MHNT Guidelines, and ALIMA protocols, procedures and the universal hygiene standards in order to guarantee quality and efficiency of the service provided.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

  • Ensuring the implementation and standardization of MHNT activities package as per National guidelines, and ALIMA clinical policies, tools, and hygiene protocols in order to minimize clinical risks and to guarantee the quality of patient care management. Promoting and maintaining confidentiality regarding all patient cases and records
  • Implementing diagnosis, prescription and prevention procedures that fall under the scope of his/her competencies applying medical knowledge, asking appropriate questions to patients and following protocols (CMAM, IMCI, MNCH, EPI,…) in force as well as using laboratory rapid tests, when necessary, in order to ensure a correct implementation of the medical treatments and to refer patients when appropriate.
  • Implementing all preventive activities (EPI,..) , Essentials Nutrition Activities, Growth monitoring for children under five years old in the targeted populations
  • In charge of MHNT related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs inventories, stock takes of medicines and material, etc.)
  • In close collaboration with logistic teams, organising all logistic needs of the MHNT
  • In close collaboration with the Nurse supervisor and the project coordination team, identifying population in need and setting the schedule for MHNT activities
  • In collaboration with community activity supervisor and the project coordination team, involving HP/HC responsible and community leaders in the MHNT activity and ensuring targeted population is aware of the MHNT schedule
  • Collaborate with HP and HC responsible and personnel while organizing MHNTs activities in their areas
  • Ensuring good usage of medical devices, cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
  • In cases of emergency, carrying out first aid care and treatment according to protocols prior referral  in order to reduce mortality rates
  • Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
  • After being trained on MHPSS:
  • Provide consultation and appropriate case management for beneficiaries with psychosocial problems and mental illness.
  • Organize awareness raising and sensitization event, workshop, campaign on mental health topics for communities targeting various age groups
  • Organize and conduct PFA training for volunteers, community leaders and representatives
  • Supervising and training volunteers, HEW, nutritional assistants, cleaners and other related staff under his/her supervision, ensuring teamwork and adherence to all appropriate protocols and procedures
  • Recording in the individual patient’s card and registration books, all performed medical activities (drugs prescribed, lab results, vaccination status, epidemiological activity, doses, etc.) keeping data traceability in order to ensure patients treatment continuity.
  • Ensuring data collection and reporting of all MHNT activities.

Job Requirements

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Training / Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

Experiences :

  • Working experience of at least 2 years in clinical activity
  • Extensive Knowledge and experience in primary health care system, and Humanitarian/ emergency context.
  • Relevant experience on doing OPD Consultation, managing Emergency cases, facilitating the referrals, managing MAM and SAM cases
  • Relevant experience in performing clinical procedures (assisted delivery and others),

Skills:

  • Ability to prescribe medications for the patient in more efficient and effective way
  • Ability to performing rapid diagnostic procedures and others
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent organizational skills and multi-tasking ability
  • Collaborative attitude with colleagues, work team and external partners
  • Ability to work with a broad spectrum of people from different cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Flexible with ability to cope with stressful situations and challenging conditions with limited resources.
  • Ability to work independently and quickly take up a position

Languages:

  • English Speaking, reading and writing, mandatory.
  • Knowledge of a local language (Somali and Oromo) is an asset
