Job Description

SOS Sahel Ethiopia jointly with Society for Education, Environment Development (SEED) obtained financial support from UN OCHA to implement a project entitled “Rebuilding Lives: Integrated Humanitarian Support for Returning IDPs in Horo Guduru Wollega zone, Abe Dongoro District”. The project objective is to strengthen the livelihoods, food security, and protection of returning internally displaced populations in Abe Dongoro district by delivering integrated, time-bound support—including agricultural inputs, animal health services, cash assistance, emergency shelter repair, GBV response, Mobile Health and Nutrition Team (MHNT), and WASH. The project will be in implementation from 01, December 2025 to 17, August 2026.

SOS Sahel Ethiopia, as part of its program implementation is seeking to employ interested, qualified, & experienced individual for the job positions mentioned hereunder:

Nurse (Mobile)

Required: 2 (one for adults and one for children)

Job Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Health Officer and as part of the MHNT, the Mobile Nurse will play a key role in improving access to – and utilization of – basic child and adult health and nutrition services to prevent avoidable morbidities and mortalities and alert, prevent and control disease outbreaks. He/she will have responsibility for the provision of appropriate treatment for all patients in compliance with rational use of drugs and national standard treatment protocols.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provision of appropriate treatment for all patients in compliance with rational use of drugs and national standard treatment protocols
  • Manage all sick children under the IMNCI protocol. Other services under the child health package are Immunization, Vitamin A supplementation and De-worming
  • Screening of all under 5 children (under children health package), pregnant women and lactating women (under maternal health and other acute & life threatening illnesses package) and essential nutrition actions (ENAs)
  • Manage children with acute malnutrition in accordance to the national guideline for management of acute malnutrition
  • Ensure proper referral of all emergency cases beyond the team capacity to the nearest referral health center &/or Hospital
  • Assists the transportation of supplies to health facilities along the way to its operational site
  • Participate in the selection, functionalization and strengthening of operational sites including a health post
  • Conduct regular visits at health posts to provide on-the-job support
  • Support the reporting of health activities from the health facilities and pass it to the woreda health office
  • Implementing health and nutrition activities of high quality
  • Alerting the immediate supervisor on all issues that have an important impact or no identified solution or need support to be solved
  • Maintain smooth working relations with government health staff and other partners
  • Prepare monthly progress reports and any other required documentation for submission to the Supervisor
  • Ensure and support the Woreda Health Office staff in reporting, recording and supply management of OTP and SC program
  • Report any problems in a timely manner to the Health officer
  • Ensure that program participants and stakeholders have clear information about the program activities as appropriate and relevant to them.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the project team leader.

Remuneration: As per the organization salary scale and benefit packages.

Duty Base: Abe Dongor District of Horo Guduru Wollega Zone in Oromia Region

NB*: Knowledge of local languages – Afaan Oromo is required.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • BSc Degree in Public Health/Nursing with minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Profound experience in CMAM, particularly SAM management
  • NGO experience in emergency projects is an advantage
  • Good communication and report writing skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and team player with sensitivity to cultural diversity
