Job Description
The role of the National Irrigation Agronomy Expert is to contribute to the work of the R-PCU in the planning and implementation of all measures related to irrigation farming.
Project status: Tender
Project title: Strengthening Drought Resilience in Ethiopia (SDR3)
Period of project: Approximately 09/2022 – 08/2026
Duration of Assignment: 24 months
Duty station: The duty station of the expert will be the Afar region
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
Education:
- Postgraduate degree in agricultural engineering, agronomy or a similar discipline
Sectoral experience:
- Good knowledge and at least 7 years of practical experience in irrigation farming and water resource management in dry and semi-dry areas;
- Track records for projects related to multidisciplinary and integrated approaches in irrigation farming practices;
- Proven experience in the planning and establishment of innovative agricultural crops production systems;
- Experience in working with rural communities (pastoral and semi pastoral communities);
- Experience and proven track record in participatory methods.
Regional experience:
- Experience in work in rural areas in drylands through long-term assignments (lowland Ethiopia such as Afar or Somali region).
Donor experience:
- Previous experience with work for donor-funded projects in similar positions.
Language skills:
- Proficiency in the English language;
- Proficiency in Afar language would be an asset.
