Job Type: Non-Staff Consultancy (30 days WAE over 5 months)

Role Summary

The UNIDO Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women Division is seeking experienced National Gender Experts in Africa to join a 2-year talent roster. In this role, you will lead gender mainstreaming initiatives under the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Accelerator pilot project across key development sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gender Assessments: Conduct in-depth reviews of project designs and implementation strategies to identify gender gaps and risks within local contexts.
  • Gender Action Plans: Formulate, execute, and monitor Gender Action Plans with measurable targets and disaggregated indicators.
  • Capacity Building: Deliver gender sensitization training for project staff, beneficiaries, and institutional stakeholders.
  • Data Collection & Monitoring: Establish sex-disaggregated baseline data and conduct site visits to track progress and adjust activities as needed.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with government agencies, local NGOs, civil society organizations, and women’s empowerment groups.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Social Sciences, Human Development, Gender Studies, or Sustainable Development. (A Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of directly relevant experience may be accepted in lieu).
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands-on professional experience in gender mainstreaming, gender analysis tools, and project evaluation within Africa.
  • Regional Context: Deep familiarity with local development challenges and institutional frameworks in one of the eligible countries.
  • Languages: Native or professional fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of local working languages is a plus.
  • Eligibility: Candidates must be nationals or permanent legal residents of Kenya, Ethiopia, Malawi, Lesotho, South Africa, or Tunisia.
