About the Opportunity

The MEL Associate will be based in Assosa, with frequent travel to different sites where Inkomoko has operations in Ethiopia. He/she will report to the MEL Manager Ethiopia. The roles and responsibilities for this position include.

Responsibilities

Data Collection (50%)

  • Support the manager in data collection and data quality checks
  • Conduct quarterly routine data quality assessment
  • Design and refine both qualitative and quantitative data collection tools. Work with the manager to plan and execute data collections processes, including surveys and focus group discussions with a variety of client types across Ethiopia.
  • Communicate with clients about data collection plans and processes, and organize all logistics for successful collection
  • Test survey materials, and incorporate feedback in consultation with the MEL team prior to training.
  • Translate or review data collection materials into local languages (Amharic) as needed.
  • Train field staff on the routine monitoring data collection tools
  • Train enumerators on the data collection tools and data process
  • Supervise enumerators, ensuring they are trained and following all interview protocols for data collection
  • Supervise the data collection in English, and Amharic – in person, on the phone, or with digital solutions
  • Lead focus group discussions, facilitating and taking notes to encourage meaningful insights
  • Ensure that surveys and M&E tasks are implemented in accordance with the M&E standard operating procedures set by Inkomoko

Data Organization and Reporting (30%)

  • Ensure high data quality and completeness by conducting data cleaning exercises
  • Ensure proper storage of data and use of appropriate guidelines to ensure Inkomoko and client confidentiality
  • Transcribe data from focus group discussions
  • Translate data accurately between Amharic and English
  • Analyze data in excel and other analysis tools and write summary reports
  • Develop and share routine monitoring reports on monthly basis with BGS field teams
  • Assist in data analysis and donor/partner reporting
  • Support the communication team in gathering significant success stories

Data Systems Management (20%)

  • Support the Manager in the continual improvements in collecting and managing company data, including working closely with program departments and others to ensure smooth flow of data within company systems.
  • Develop policies and ensure they are ethical and meet international standards and data collection protocols.
  • Ensure data and privacy protections for all content
  • Follow up and implement policies and protocols for all company and client data
  • Support the Manager of Data Quality in supervising external consultants during external evaluations.
  • Lead the field teams in conducting monthly and quarterly visits to the clients
  • Update the project monitoring plan and monitor the indicators of different projects
  • Collect and collate client’s feedback and voice to be incorporated in quarterly program review

Other MEL Responsibilities

  • Willingness to travel at least 30% of your time to other Ethiopia field offices
  • Perform any other activities related to MEL.

 

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

The MEL Associate should have experience in MEL.  Successful candidates will need to demonstrate:

  • Technical skills in data collection, tool development using mobile data collection software, and data management protocols
  • Must be fluent in English and Amharic
  • Experience managing teams of enumerators
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative data methods
  • Experience in statistical analysis software and or qualitative data analysis software
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines – must be strategic and operational
  • 3 years of work experience in relevant or applicable field
  • Degree preferred
