Summary Scope of Work

This position is responsible for the implementation of group ANC study implemented in 36 HPs under 12 cluster HCs in South Gondar and West Gojem Zones of Amhara region. This position function in collaboration with regional MNH advisor, ARC program manager and other team to ensure the success of G-ANC intervention implementation.  One person will support the implementation of G-ANC at an average of 6-8 HPs intervention HPs during each block of intervention vigorously and with slight touch (mainly off site) support to other non-intervention HPs during each block based on the need in woredas of his/her assignment.

Specific Duties and responsibilities

  • Review annual ARC Group ANC program and provide necessary in puts based on the local context
  • Sound resource management at region and district level as per the organization FMR
  • Collect essential   intervention HPs profile and performance data, analyze, report to higher level   and use for decision making at local level
  • Provide necessary support and collaborate with ACIPH during baseline, mid -term and endline survey data collection, this include ensuring adequate number of eligible pregnant women identification, proper registration of identified women and link with ACIPH data collectors
  • Provide technical support to HEWs and community mobilizers to ensure the eligible pregnant women identification and pregnant women group establishment is in line with the implementation guide/protocol.
  • Ensure G-ANC enrolled pregnant women properly informed when to start the first G-ANC meeting by HEWs /data collector during   data collection.
  • Distribute all necessary G-ANC training materials and equipment to intervention HPs and submit back a model of receipt to ARC CO program officer for necessary documentation.
  • Organize different G-ANC capacity building trainings/workshop in the region; this include facilitate invitation letter, organize all training logistics in collaboration with ARC CO program officer), ensure adequate number of participant’s presence on training (>80%), communicate to practicum site and ensure the availability of cases for clinical practice when necessarily
  • Ensure proper preparation of the HEWs for G-ANC meeting like if G-ANC pregnant women communicated on due date and place of the meeting, one day ahead preparation by HEWs for the meeting and availability of all necessary logistic for the meeting and clinical examination of pregnant woman.
  • Provide technical support during G-ANC meeting for HEW (assisting while taking history and physical examination) and G-ANC women.
  • Conduct post meeting off site and on site follow up to G-ANC women through HEW, identify absentees and reasons for absentee, and provide solution at local level
  • Review the completeness, accuracy and consistency of GANC attendance register and analyze data and produce regular health posts and woreda level reports focusing on gaps and challenges during each GANC meetings, use for decision making locally as well as enter aggregated data monthly to electronically capturing data system
  • Conduct Integrated follow up visit to G-ANC implementing HPs with public sector G-ANC trained midwives and RH officers using G-ANC follow up checklist.
  • Proper documentation of each intervention process like identification of best practices and monitoring of intervention process indicators, prepare GANC cohort report and submit to local stakeholders and MNH advisor
  • Document and report incidents and challenges that hinder the implementation of monthly meeting.
  • Proactive in problem identification and provide necessary solution at local level except most important that to be communicated to the next level
  • Ensure active collaboration, information sharing and joint meetings between the programme and local authorities and other stakeholders to identify and strengthen support for project activities
  • Provide project updates for cluster health center and Woreda health office when necessary.
  • Represent and liaise the project districts level
  • Submit quarterly travel plan to MNH advisor with detail description (what, where and when)
  • Produce monthly performance report and submit to MNH advisor
  • Participate on ARC weekly meeting on month basis
  • Perform any other related tasks assigned by his/ her supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery; or Nursing or Public Health with proven experience in MNCH.
  • At least five years’ experience in program coordination and management or comparable position in the area of MNCH.
  • Program planning, coordination and management.
  • Previous work experience in an NGO environment.
  • In-depth and up to date understanding of the Ethiopian health service delivery system, MNCH priorities and interventions; the Primary Health Care Units and the Health Extension Program.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Applications including Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint; and internet navigation.
