About the Organization: 

Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) is a legally registered, autonomous, and not-for-profit professional association established in 1992 and re-registered under the new civil society proclamation. Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) operates in all regions of Ethiopia by using and works for the quality of midwifery education and care. EMwA has been a member of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) since 1993.

The primary goal of EMwA is to contribute towards the reduction of maternal and child mortality and morbidity in Ethiopia, which are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) global initiatives. The vision of the association is to see every woman, newborn, and their family have access to standard midwifery care. The mission of the association is to promote and enhance the expansion, performance and status of midwifery profession through adapting quality and evidence-based practices; adhering to the code of ethics and conduct empowering the professionals.

Position summary: 

The Midwife reports to the Project coordinator/manager, is responsible for planning, coordinating, facilitating and Providing RMNCAH services and humanitarian activities program in the region. S/he also conduct and coordinate different surveys on the efficiency and effectiveness of the mentorship programs and its impact at the grass root level. S/he conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of the health extension workers activities in the community level and share findings of best practices for documentation

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct sensitization meeting at Zone, Woreda, Health Center levels
  • Organize  and facilitate different types of MNCH training  and meetings with Regional Health Bureau, Zonal & Woreda Health office and Hospital and Health Center Heads.
  • Undertake the baseline assessment jointly with the PSI  MCH officer
  • Summarize and submit the baseline assessment report to RHB and EMwA
  • Develop mentoring schedule jointly with the MCH Coordinators and should be shared with woreda health office head or zonal health office head in case of mentors from General Hospital
  • Mentor midwives who are working in MNH service delivery point
  • Enhance the performance of Health Center and Health Post MCH unit service delivery
  • Introduce innovative interventions in maternal and child health units of Health Posts and Health Centers
  • Support baseline assessment in the respective Health posts networked with the Health Center
  • Support the newly mentor at health center and compiled monthly report of each activities by using the mentorship reporting form.
  • Work closely with the Health Care staff; Woreda level MCH Coordinator and health center level MNCH focals and facilitate the mentorship program.
  • Produce and submit monthly mentorship report to Woreda MNCH Coordinator and EMwA.
  • Support best practice documentation and disseminate results for wider use
  • Conduct final assessment to see the outcome of the mentorship program and report to Woreda MNCH Coordinator and EMwA before the end of the project period (This will be conducted in the last week of the last month of the project)
  • Perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor

Job Requirements

Education:

  • MSc or MPH with Midwifery background or BSc in Midwifery.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 /5 years of experience in clinical practice and in-depth understanding of international & National reproductive, maternal and new-born health.
  • Having a clinical area experience with a minimum of 2 years
  • Knowledge and experience in standard Midwifery care and practice and extensive experience in MNCH service provision.
  • Proven extensive experience of working as a Midwife /MNCH Mentor
  • Having experience on facilitating trainings
  • I/NGO experience

Training:

  • Having  Basic Postpartum Family Planning , Comprehensive Abortion Care, BEmONC, Adolescent and youth Health, Clinical Mentorship,  facilitation skill trainings
  • ToT  training on Family Planning , BEmONC

  • Having renewed professional license
  • Clearance from previous working organization
  • Ethiopian Midwives association member
