Job Description

Tearfund Ethiopia is looking for a MEAL Officer for its Ethiopia Drought Joint Response project (EDJR) funded by Dutch Relief Alliance (DRA). The Ethiopian Drought Joint Response will be implemented by 5 international and 8 national organisations: Tearfund is one of the international organisations Implementing this project together with the Ethiopian Kale Hiwot Church Development Commission (EKHCDC) in East Hararghe Zone Midega Tola woreda.The project targets the most vulnerable, food insecure population of the community, who will receive multi-sectoral assistance, with a focus on Food Security and livelihoods, WASH, and Multi-Purpose Cash. Throughout all activities, protection will be mainstreamed. Other cross-cutting themes are localization and accountability to affected populations.

The MEAL Officer is responsible for the implementation, monitoring, evaluation and learning of the EDJR project and provides support to the Ethiopia Joint response implementation consortium partner: Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church Development Commission for successful implementation of the project.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Minimum BSc/BA in the fields of Agriculture, Rural Development, DRM, Economics, Social Science, Project Management, Development Management, Statistics, or any other related field of study
  • Minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience with first Degree and second degree 2 years in monitoring and evaluation in NGO settings.
  • Knowledge of Monitoring and Evaluation methodologies, including logical models, conceptual frameworks, and assessment/evaluation.
  • Proven report writing experience to range of stakeholders
  • Preferred knowledge of mobile data collection tools such as Kobo Collect or CommCare or any other
  • Conduct training need assessment to build the capacity of partners MEAL and technical project staff

The successful applicant will also have:

  • Proven skills in project planning, implementation, monitoring & evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability in proposal and report writing skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills
  • Understanding and sensitivity to cross-cultural issues
  • Oral and written fluency in English, Amharic
  • Team player

This role will be based in Harar, Ethiopia and it requires fluency in local languages, therefore Ethiopian nationals will be given preference for this role.

The recruitment process will include specific checks related to safeguarding.

In addition, personal identification information will be submitted against a watch list database to check against criminal convictions as a counter-terror measure.
