Job Title: MEAL Coordinator (National Position)
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Reports to: Head of Programme Development and Quality
Contract Duration: 2-year, renewable based on performance and funding
MEAL Coordinator provide strategic leadership and technical oversight for MEAL across the Welthungerhilfe Ethiopia country programme, strengthening programme quality, accountability, results-based management, and learning through robust systems and evidence-based decision-making.
Purpose of the Role
- Provide strategic leadership and overall technical oversight for Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) across the Welthungerhilfe Ethiopia country programme.
- Ensure all programmes and projects comply with WHH MEAL standards, Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) commitments and donor requirements.
- Lead and support needs assessments, baselines, context analyses, routine monitoring, evaluations/impact assessments and data quality assurance processes.
- Guide programme teams and partners in results-based design, including development of theories of change, logivcal framework, indicators, targets and monitoring plans.
- Oversee MEAL information management systems, including digital data collection, data analysis, reporting, visualization and knowledge products.
- Strengthen accountability to targeted community through effective participation, information-sharing and robust feedback and complaints response mechanisms.
- Ensure safe, ethical and confidential data management practices, including safeguarding-sensitive complaints handling and referral pathways.
- Promote learning, reflection and adaptive management through regular reviews, learning events and systematic use of MEAL evidence.
- Build the capacity of staff and partner organisations through training, coaching, mentoring and technical support on MEAL and accountability.
- Coordinate partner reporting, conduct joint data reviews and support partners to improve data quality, timeliness and use.
- Represent Welthungerhilfe in relevant MEAL, accountability and information management coordination forums and maintain close collaboration with internal teams.
About You
- Advanced university degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Statistics, Economics or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive professional experience in MEAL/PMEL or programme cycle management roles within humanitarian and/or development contexts.
- Strong technical expertise in results-based management, indicator development, and qualitative and quantitative research methods.
- Proven experience in designing and managing assessments, baseline/endline surveys and evaluations, and translating findings into programme improvements.
- Demonstrated experience in accountability to affected populations, including feedback and complaints mechanisms and knowledge of the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS).
- Strong capacity-building skills, including training, coaching and mentoring staff and partners.
- Practical experience with digital data collection, information management systems and data analysis/visualisation tools.
- Strong analytical, writing and communication skills in English; knowledge of Amharic is an asset.
- Ability to work collaboratively with partners and multicultural teams, and willingness to travel regularly to project locations.
