Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
The Marketing Manager leads World Vision Ethiopia’s national marketing and fundraising strategy, driving growth in domestic income, supporter engagement, and brand visibility. Working alongside the Communications and Marketing Director, the role provides strategic guidance to the Senior Leadership Team on marketing, fundraising, and brand positioning. It oversees the Marketing Partnerships Specialist and manages agencies and vendors to deliver integrated, data-driven campaigns that engage individuals, corporations, and faith communities. The position directly leads retail giving and individual donor growth through innovative digital and offline approaches. As a senior leader, the Marketing Manager ensures excellence in execution, compliance, and stewardship, thereby strengthening WVE’s reputation as a trusted and creative partner for social impact, enabling more children to thrive.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to promote best practices and foster a culture of relevant culture, e.g., safeguarding, quality assurance.
- Liaise, network and maintain good working relationships with relevant actors
Training and Capacity Building:
- Design and facilitate training programs for staff, ensuring knowledge transfer and skill enhancement.
- Advise and facilitate training to WVE Staff, Board members and volunteers
- Ensure that an up-to-date training record is maintained
- Continuous capacity building efforts and developed training materials both virtually and face to face.
Monitoring and Evaluation :
Conduct regular assessments and audits to ensure adherence to established standards and to facilitate continuous improvement.
Support, review, assess and audit the development of policies, structures and systems
Strategic Collaboration and Thought Leadership
- Engage with the Local Partnerships Specialist to implement the Localisation Roadmap in order to strengthen local partner capacity and deliver targeted training and mentorship where needed.
- Contribute to WVE’s acquisition efforts by engaging in external stakeholder relations and proposal preparation to increase funding opportunities in coordination with the RAM team.
- Build a public profile of being a thought-leader and demonstrate expertise in your area of operation in collaboration with the Communications Team to help build WVE’s reputation
- Helps build capacity of partner organisations in selective Marketing approaches.
- Local partners demonstrate improved capacity and alignment with WVE’s localisation strategy, contributing to more sustainable, community-led impact.
- WVE’s thought leadership and visibility in marketing, localisation, and partnership development are enhanced, leading to increased funding opportunities and stronger stakeholder trust.
Strategic Marketing and Fundraising Leadership
- Lead the development and implementation of WVE’s national marketing and fundraising strategy, aligned with global priorities.
- Partner with the Communications and Marketing Director to guide the Senior Leadership Team on brand positioning, marketing priorities, and supporter engagement.
- Oversee the planning and execution of integrated marketing campaigns that drive income, awareness, and brand trust.
- Ensure that marketing and fundraising decisions are data-driven, compliant, and financially accountable.
- Raise funding to support impact in the lives of the children we serve while also covering all marketing costs
- WVE achieves sustainable growth in domestic income, improved supporter engagement, and a strong, credible brand presence nationally.
Drive Retail Giving
- Design and lead strategies for acquiring, nurturing, and retaining individual Sponsors and Donors through digital, direct, and event-based channels.
- Help meet local Child Sponsorship targets in line with WVE’s country strategy.
- Develop compelling Sponsor and Donor journeys and personalised communication touchpoints to increase loyalty, lifetime value, and recurring support.
- Introduce innovation in giving, including digital wallets, mobile platforms, and crowd- and micro-giving models.
- Develop and promote non-Sponsorship pledge and one-time giving products tailored to diverse supporter motivations and capacities.
- Maintain a robust CRM system for donor and sponsor intelligence, income forecasting, and retention insights.
- Retail giving becomes a key and reliable income stream, with measurable donor growth and high retention rates.
Partnership and CSR Oversight
- Supervise the Marketing Partnerships Specialist to ensure strong pipeline management, relationship stewardship, and partnership innovation.
- Oversee the design and delivery of CSR, Income Generating Activities (IGAs), corporate, and faith-based partnerships that align with WVE’s mission and brand.
- Provide strategic input into partnership proposals, business cases, and joint venture opportunities.
- Ensure all partnerships meet ethical, compliance, and impact standards while maximising shared value.
- WVE’s partnerships portfolio grows in both revenue and reputation, positioning the organisation as the preferred partner for social impact in Ethiopia.
- The Marketing Partnerships Specialist feels empowered and supported with strategic guidance.
Market Research and Brand Innovation
- Monitor and analyse giving trends, consumer behaviour, and competitor activities to identify new opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Communications Team to test and scale innovative marketing approaches.
- Introduce insight-led creative campaigns that strengthen brand affinity and donor engagement.
- Lead on market evaluations to measure the effectiveness of marketing investments and inform future planning.
- Marketing strategies remain adaptive, innovative, and evidence-based, driving sustained brand relevance and fundraising efficiency.
Required Education, training, license, registration, and/or Certification
- Bachelor’s or master’s in business administration, Finance, Marketing, Development, or related field.
Required Professional Experience
- Minimum 8–10 years in marketing, fundraising, or business development, including 3–5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven experience developing integrated marketing strategies and achieving measurable revenue growth.
- Demonstrated success in donor acquisition and retention across digital and offline channels.
- Financial management and team leadership experience essential.
- Experienced in business planning, financial modelling, proposal writing, and partnership negotiation.
- Proficient in market analysis, CRM systems, and project management.
- Experience managing agencies or consultants.
- Exposure to social enterprise or shared-value initiatives preferred
