Role and responsibilities

Provide hands on support for the proper implementation of the Logistics policies and procedures per NRC manual across the area offices to ensure effective performance of the Logistics department, capacity building and gap filling to the area offices whenever requested and authorised by the line manager.

Generic responsibilities:

  • Adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  • Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  • Follow proper standard NRC archiving procedure and keep scanned copies of all procurement justifying document in Agresso system.
  • Provide support to the area offices whenever needed including but not limited to fleet, asset management, stock management and procurement
  • Participate in emergency need assessments representing logistics
  • Representing logistics during new area office opening and closures
  • Provide training whenever needed
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement of logistics function
  • Additional Responsibilities requested by the Line Manager

Specific responsibilities 

  • Provide support to the area offices during new program launch/bulky procurement, etc.
  • Provide cover for when field logistics staff are on leave/ vacancies appear
  • Support the area office during new area office opening and closures
  • Provide general logistics training and refresher training where necessary according to plan and/or upon request from the area offices and authorization of Logistics Manager
  • Carry out market surveys at area offices upon logistics manager request and in collaboration with procurement coordinator
  • Provide technical support and advice to all staffs in regards to general logistics and procurement
  • Participate in emergency need assessments representing logistics whenever requested
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement of logistics function
  • Perform other logistics functions as delegated by Logistics Manager

Generic professional competencies: 

  • Experience of working as a procurement coordinator/manager in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working under pressure in emergency contexts
  • Excellent knowledge of English

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience: 

  • Ability to follow policies and procedures and work systematically
  • Able to use policies and procedures to solve problems, and be proactive in bringing ideas and solutions
  • Able to maintain good relations with colleagues and suppliers, even in difficult circumstances, always maintaining professionalism when representing NRC
  • Able to work in a team, and motivate others, and participate actively in team meetings and discussions
  • Able to analyze information, prioritize and take decisions and responsibility for those decisions
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Dynamic, energetic, and committed to NRCs work in Ethiopia
  • Keen to work in a busy environment, and take pride in working hard and achieving results
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Excel and use of email
  • Strong English language skills, both written and verbal
  • Bachelor’s Degree in procurement  and logistics
  • 5 years’ experience in roving position preferably with NGOs
