ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Under the supervision of the Logistic officer in Dire Dawa sub office.

JOB PURPOSE

The Logistics Associate shall provide specialized support functions and perform standard logistics/supply chain processes and activities under Customs functions to enable the effective delivery of goods and services for all delivery modalities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Provide specialized support to logistics operations and activities, following standard processes and contributing, directly or indirectly, to the effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries.
  • Support the development and implementation of procedures at field operations, focused on customs activities, ensuring that objectives are achieved in compliance with regional and functional strategies, policies and plans.
  • Support in ensuring that contracted service providers for Customs activities provide services both timely and as per the contracts and undertake regular performance monitoring and measurement, supported by analysis and recommendations.
  • Manage documentation processing for execution of Customs activities and take appropriate actions to resolve operational issues escalating complex issues to the supervisor.
  • Prepare accurate and timely accounting, data collection, and reporting, to inform supply chain planning and enabling informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
  • Analyse custom requirements and contribute to assessments and operational planning for all delivery modalities, to ensure that supply chain requirements are taken into consideration.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support logistics operations management and contribute to effective service delivery.
  • Follow-up with bonded warehouses licence renewals and ensure bonded stocks are kept in bonded warehouse according to custom/WFP agreements and procedures.
  • Perform daily inspections and prepare reports on the quantity and quality of the commodities inside the bonded warehouse.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A secondary certificate in or completion of a university degree with a focus on Logistics and Supply Chain or any other related field.

Experience: Secondary school education complete with a minimum of 6 years of working experience OR a Bachelor’s Degree with 4 years of work experience in the relative business stream out of on humanitarian or development context in the Customs field will have an added
value.

Language: Fluency in oral and written communication in English. Knowledge of the local language is an added advantage.

Warehouse and Inventory Management Demonstrates ability to implement operational warehouse procedures and normative guidance in order to manage WFP’s warehouse, handle inventory effectively through corporate systems, and ensure loss mitigation.
Technical Assistance and Coordination Demonstrates abilities to provide basic technical advice and maintain effective (inclusive, collaborative, unified) logistics coordination mechanisms with humanitarian partners and other relevant stakeholders.
