Job Description

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) seeks to recruit a Logistics Assistant who is expected to boost the effectiveness and efficiency of the procurement, fleet and logistics services provided to CIMMTY Ethiopia office in accordance with the laid down procedures and who be a member of CIMMYT Ethiopia office  which is located at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Addis Ababa campus.

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) is an autonomous, non-profit making, international scientific organization operating under the aegis of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). More specifically its mission is to encourage, support and undertake activities to improve the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of maize and wheat systems in the interest of the resource poor in developing countries.

Main duties & responsibilities:

  • Review tender documents to ensure compliance with the set practices and policies;
  • Review orders for procurement and importation of goods/services to ensure they meet the specifications captured in the quotations and purchase orders;
  • Contribute to the budgeting process in the procurement unit through timely planning and preparation of recharges;
  • Provide information on procurement services including responding to queries and resolving issues related to the contracting process;
  • Monitor the implementation of applicable policies and service level agreements by all service providers such as outsourced garages, insurance companies and staff vehicle use authorization;
  • Establish and maintain all relevant databases;
  • Manage the internal procurement system;
  • Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships that support the negotiation of contracts with external service providers and ensure the terms of contracts serve CIMMYT’s interests;
  • Supervise CIMMYT drivers and participate in identifying and orienting new ones;
  • Establish tools, systems, processes, and feedback mechanisms that maintain a proactive approach in service delivery and ensure customer satisfaction;
  • Ensures proper and optimum utilization of CIMMYT’s resources including its fleet;
  • Perform any other related duties as may be required.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Procurement and Supplies/Management from a recognized university

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years relevant experience Or Diploma with five years of relevant experience preferably in an international organization

Skills:

  • A comprehensive understanding of technical knowledge in the field of procurement, fleet management or logistics
  • English language skills Proficiency in the use of office applications

Duty Station:     Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Position level:   HG 12

Minimum Base salary:  Birr 35,071 per month (negotiable depending on salary history of the candidate)

Terms of appointment: This is a National Staff (NS) position, initial appointment is for two years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical insurance, offshore pension plan, etc.  The ILRI campus is set in a secure, attractive campus with dining and sports facilities.
