Job Description

Cesvi is a secular and independent humanitarian organization, founded in Bergamo, Italy in 1985. Cesvi works in 23 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe, supporting the most vulnerable populations in the promotion of human rights, in the achievement of their aspirations, for sustainable development and in response to the most severe emergencies.

Cesvi is registered in Ethiopia since 2018 and has been working in refugee camps in Tigray and with pastoralists communities in Oromia. In 2022, Cesvi is starting operations in Amhara (COVID-19 prevention measures and income-generating activities for people with disabilities in conflict-affected areas), Harar and Dire Dawa (promoting socio-economic integration of people on the move and potential migrants, with a focus on people with disabilities, along the Eastern Ethiopian migration route) and Beninshangul-Gumuz (in the Bambasi refugee camps).

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Cesvi activities in Ethiopia;
  • Design and coordinate baseline surveys, market analysis, feasibility studies for livelihoods programming;
  • Participate in proposal development for new projects in accordance with Cesvi guidelines and standards;
  • In collaboration with the Country Director, develop monitoring and evaluation tools for the ongoing projects;
  • Carry-out personal performance appraisal of the team members on a regular basis (coordinate with HR on procedures, templates, and schedules);
  • Identify teams’ training needs and in collaboration with the Country Director, develop the capacity of the team by delivering on the job training and mentoring;
  • Document regular significant success and human-interest stories, best practices and photos;
  • Conduct training on relevant thematic areas and other project interventions;
  • Provide technical backstopping and facilitation, work closely with partners, field staff, and cluster based stakeholders, networks, and community members to ensure achievement of objectives in timely and cost effective manner;
  • Identify livelihoods and environmental constraints/concerns and suggest possible recommendations to the Country Director;
  • Ensure core humanitarian standards (CHS) are adhered to in the implementation of the livelihoods activities;
  • Represent Cesvi in relevant coordination platforms (Alliance2015’s meetings and events, etc;);
  • Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Country Director.
  • The collaboration will start in July/August 2022 and will end in December 2022.
  • The main duty station will be Cesvi office in Addis Ababa.
  •  Travels will represent at least the 30% of the monthly activities

While performing the duties of this job in the field, he/she may be exposed to precarious settings under high-security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather conditions, as well as to infectious diseases.

Starting date of collaboration: July/August 2022

Ending date of collaboration:  December 2022

Duration: 5/6 months, with possibility of extension

Job Requirements

  • Degree in economic studies, development studies or other related fields.
  •  At least 8 years’ working experience in Ethiopia in development projects.
  •  Capacity to effectively manage relations with staff, partners and stakeholders involved in the projects.
  •  Ability to work in team, also with partner organizations.
  •  Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  •  Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel.
  •  Good organizational skills, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work cooperatively.
  •  Good knowledge Amharic and English (written and spoken) is essential.
  • Excellent reporting skills.

Optional requirements

  • Previous experience in working with International NGOs.
  •  Oromo language.
