Position Overview
Are you an experienced geospatial data expert looking to make a high-impact contribution to climate resilience and agricultural development in Africa?
AUDA-NEPAD is seeking a Lead Geospatial & Data Analytics Specialist to direct the design and operationalization of a regional data platform under the Regional Acceleration Project (RISE-RAP)—part of the Africa Resilient Irrigation for Sustainable Economies Multiphase Programmatic Approach (Africa RISE MPA).
In this role, you will lead a multidisciplinary team to build robust hydro-informatics pipelines, satellite-derived geospatial datasets, and decision-support dashboards serving Eastern and Southern Africa.
Key Responsibilities

Geospatial & Hydro-Informatics Analytics: Lead the development of foundational regional geospatial layers, including crop/irrigated-area mapping, evapotranspiration datasets, water productivity metrics, and climate-risk models.

Data Pipeline & Dashboard Integration: Build and maintain repeatable, interoperable data pipelines feeding into the Africa RISE Gateway and the Regional Benchmarking Dashboard.

Decision Support & Intelligence: Direct the architecture and deployment of the Regional Irrigation Intelligence and Decision Support Platform.

Data Governance & Security: Establish standardized data governance, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), and interoperability protocols for secure country-to-regional data exchange.

Capacity Building & Knowledge Transfer: Deliver training programs and knowledge-transfer frameworks to build lasting technical capabilities among AUDA-NEPAD staff and national focal points across member states.

Experience Requirements:

Minimum of 8 years of demonstrated experience in remote sensing, GIS data engineering, and hydro-informatics.

Proven track record of designing and delivering regional-scale geospatial systems in African contexts.

Expertise in working with satellite observation data, cloud computing platforms, and interactive dashboard engineering.

Strong written and verbal communication in English (proficiency in French or Portuguese is a strong advantage).
Work Location & Travel

Primary Location: Remote execution coordinated through AUDA-NEPAD Headquarters in Centurion, South Africa.

Travel: Limited in-country travel for stakeholder engagement, technical validation, and capacity-building workshops (potential venues include Johannesburg, Nairobi, or Addis Ababa).
